Started to grind this group.

There's two on the right that I haven't contoured ,
the group in the middle I have done a rough contour to 60 or 80 grit ,
the group right without tape on the have contoured up to 400 grit.

The plan is to take the whole group to 400 grit then I will take each to finish.

Nice to see the Yukon River handled.

I built this knife to showcase a few options that a custom builder can do if you wondering. I hadn't planned on selling this one as I don't have a demo in this style🤔

The "Yukon" has 4 mosaic 1/8" pins in the four direction pattern
ruby spine liners against the bolster and cocobolo scales
a dovetailed bolster of Blackwood with a orange liner
Tapered Tang with a slight false edge at the tip.
all together the kn:fe gas 11 pins 🤠

If you are wondering I didn't use metal for the bolster because of the extra weight. For a 5/32" thick blank the knife has a nice weight.
I took weight off then I added it back in pins, But it works. I think.

This is number 10 of my latest run of which features a couple of client builds and a few that are ready if someone needs a knife.

But it's time I get back to order builds and leave the shop knives in the drawer

Likely I won't get around to finishing the Yukon for a while.
But it's lol further along than it was.

Thanks for following along I start posting pictures as I finish handles.

I will be posting if one of the shop knives is for sale that's a great time to get one if you are interested.

Have a great Sunday, Robert

afternoon I am working on the Yukon River

I decided to go with a Blackwood bolster
Dovetailed with ruby red liner against the spine for the bolster and cocobolo scales.
To accent the dovetail I went with an orange liner.
It's a challenge with all the angles but so far it's going nicely.
Lots of clamps as keeps the material in place as I drill the pin holes.

I found this knife of mine in the tool box a week ago.
I started to wonder how long I have the knife. So sitting in the seniors camp my memory isn't what it once was. I think I got this knife when I was 10, so it's like close to 60 years old.
The guard was loose and the leather handle dried out coated with some paint. the piece of leather right behind the guard long since gone.
lol we have the tools So a today of soaking in saddle soap and then I put a G10 shim in behind the guard which tightened the guard up.

Well a bit of clean up and I'll build a new sheath this heirloom will easily last another generation.

Thanks for following Robert

I like how the changes to the Yukon came out.

Grinding in a slight false edge
thinned the tip out and makes this a suburb hunter. It was a lot of hand sanding with 80 grit to blend in the tip well worth the effort.

Tapering the tang changed the whole feel and gives the kn:fe great balance.

I've decided not to go with a metal bolster to help keep it light weight for field use.

My friend Guy stopped by the shop last night. I showed him this Yukon River. I asked what you think?

I was ready to put the handle on.

There was a pause, I said it feels heavy bulky right? "Yes rather reply"
Right I don't like how it feels either.

So so changed it I tapered the tang , took out a bunch of weight from the tang as well and I narrowed the depth of the handle, and I clipped the point,

Yes made a bunch of work for myself but I really like the feel and weight, considering it's a thick blank the knife does act like it.

I'm thinking of adding a dovetail bolster with a cocobolo handle, I'm hoping this becomes a super useful working knife 🤠

I own the original pattern of this kn:fe by Heinz Leber, I finally got around to putting on the handle of my copy.

I decided to go with stablized pine cone acrylic dyed scales. I've used copper mosaic pins and a thin red liner.
