A plant-based diet may be meat-free…

but it is not blood-free or death-free.

Pause on that for a moment.

As a carnivore, I eat meat.
Sometimes fruit.
Pretty much ZERO vegetables.
I eat dairy.
And I’ll enjoy a glass of red w**e now and then.

In my case, one animal gives its life, and I honour that sacrifice fully.

Over a year, I likely consume the equivalent of one grass-fed beef.
That reality can’t be applied to large-scale plant-based food systems.
Industrial crop production displaces and kills countless animals —
bees, birds, mice, rabbits, deer, foxes —
yet none of them are consumed or respected as food.

Death still occurs.
It’s just hidden.

For me, ethical eating means:
• transparency
• responsibility
• and honoring the animals that feed us

Not pretending harm doesn’t exist because it’s out of sight.

‼️ TACOS DE LENGUA (or TONGUE TACOS) 🌮

If you’ve never had beef tongue… this is your sign.

It’s incredibly tender, packed with flavour, and seriously underrated.

Full transparency though 😅
I need at least a couple glasses of w**e before I peel them…
—or I hand the job off to Scott.

Worth it? Absolutely.

In Europe, chefs are winning awards serving beef from 17-year-old dairy cows.

Meanwhile, we’ve been conditioned to believe cattle must be finished by 18 months — usually by pushing faster growth through grain finishing in pens.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that.
In fact, that shift started during WWI, when speed and efficiency mattered to feed troops. It worked — and it stuck.

But it wasn’t always the only way.
Grain-free beef simply takes longer.
On our ranch, we typically finish cattle at 28–32 months, and the beef is beautifully tender.

Some of the cuts our customers rave about the most?
They came from an 8-year-old animal.

Age doesn’t automatically mean tough.
Management, genetics, movement, and finishing style matter far more than a calendar number.

Curious what you think —
👉 Would you eat beef from an older animal if it tasted incredible?
Let’s talk.

We don’t grow our own hay — and that’s on purpose.

Instead, we seed our pastures with a diverse forage blend, letting cattle rotate through 3–5 grazings each season.

Their buffet includes over 20 species:
grasses, clovers, vetch, alfalfa, peas, barley, sunflowers, and brassicas.

That diversity is a big reason our beef tastes so good.

If we cut hay ourselves, we’d only get one cut — and we’d lose valuable grazing.
Plus, it’s actually more economical for us to bring hay in.

We go through about three B-trains a month…
which means when the driver gets lost, we definitely panic. 😅

All beef is good.

Grain-finished or grass-finished — what matters most is that people eat beef and support farmers, not pit system against system or farmer against farmer.

Division doesn’t help us.

There are nuances worth understanding though.

“Grain” comes from monocrop systems, which can deplete soils and use significant water. Cattle do upcycle grain byproducts — that’s true — but large-scale monocropping itself isn’t regenerative.

Grass-based systems feed cattle and build soil.

Both models exist. Both feed people.

What we don’t need is handing more am******on to:
• the plant-based lobby
• anti-livestock activists
• or billionaire interests that want beef off the plate entirely

The real message should be simple:
✅ EAT BEEF
✅ BUY BEEF FROM FARMERS
✅ SUPPORT LOCAL FOOD SYSTEMS

Because when beef loses — farmers lose, and families lose access to real food.

Horses are so much more than pets on a ranch — they’re part of the crew.

They’re essential for:

👉 checking range
👉 sorting cattle
👉 moving cattle
👉 working cattle
👉 doing calf checks

And yes… they’re fun, too.

With this many horses, I learned to trim our own feet — because there’s nothing worse than heading out to grab your go-to horse and finding out he’s lame.
It’s just another piece of everyday ranch life.

As a girl who grew up in small-town Scotland and always felt something was missing…
that gap was filled by horses and cattle and wide-open range.

There’s no feeling quite like tearing across pasture to cut off a runaway calf.

We were sorting the feeders (aka freezer camp) and spotted this guy with a seriously swollen face.

Safe to say… he feels a whole lot better now 😮‍💨👇

Anyone else secretly (or not so secretly) love a Dr. Pimple Popper moment? There’s something oddly satisfying about watching pressure disappear.

And just to be clear — this isn’t cruel.

The relief afterward is immediate and obvious.

Old-school stockmanship. Problem spotted. Problem fixed.

I truly believe food matters.

For me, choosing real food over ultra-processed, lab-made products changed everything.

Less ingredients. No chemicals I can’t pronounce. No seed oils. No fillers.
Just real food.

When I focused on what I put into my body, my health improved in ways I didn’t expect.

My rheumatoid arthritis is now in remission, and I’m back in the lowest health insurance bracket — something I never thought I’d say.

I’m not here to give medical advice.
I’m just sharing my experience.

For me, eating nutrient-dense meat made a difference.
Less inflammation. More energy. Better quality of life.

If you’re navigating autoimmune issues, many people choose to look closely at food quality, sourcing, and simplicity — and for us, beef was part of that picture.

Beef is one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat.

And as a direct-to-consumer rancher, here’s what we hear all the time 👇

👉 “You’re too expensive.”
👉 “I can get it cheaper at Costco.”
👉 “The price of beef just keeps going up.”
👉 “I can’t afford beef.”

But let’s be honest for a second…
I’d choose a real steak over a Snickers bar any day.

One fuels your body.
The other just fills a gap.

Food isn’t just about price — it’s about value, nourishment, and where your dollars go.
