We are not looking for advice, opinions, or judgement. We are super upset but if we can find a good home and good fit Alvin deserves it. We are seeing if there’s any interest before making our minds up completely.
Alvin is a handsome young dog, believed to be a German Shepherd, Rottweiler, and Heeler mix. At just under a year old, he is still very much a puppy, with all the energy, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn that comes with it. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations.
Alvin is an incredibly smart, affectionate, and friendly dog. He loves people, especially children, and has become the best friend of our 10-month-old son. He gets along well with other dogs and enjoys being part of the action. While his bark is loud and can sound intimidating, Alvin is a social and friendly dog who loves meeting people.
One of Alvin’s favorite things is water, and he also absolutely loves car rides. He is crate trained, walks reasonably well on a leash, has good recall, and already knows basic commands such as "sit." He is highly intelligent and learns quickly. As with any young dog, he can get excited and occasionally jump up, but he is making great progress with training and continues to improve every day.
We believe Alvin would thrive in a rural or acreage setting where he has plenty of space to run and burn off energy. He does very well with larger livestock, including sheep, goats, calves, and horses. However, he is not suitable for homes with chickens, ducks, rabbits, or other small animals. He has a strong prey drive and has unfortunately killed poultry and a couple of lambs that escaped their pen.
This decision has not been made lightly. We care deeply about Alvin and want to find a home where he can truly succeed and be set up for a happy future. While he is not the right fit for our operation, we know that in the right environment he will be an exceptional companion and family dog.
We will be very selective about where Alvin goes, as finding the right match is our top priority. He is a wonderful young dog with so much potential, and we are committed to finding him the home he deserves.
