Plant 2026 is in the books!
May 6-25th. Started as early as we could with small snowbanks still around the bushlines. The first week had us put in wheat and barley. This was followed by rain that moved into full-on blizzard conditions and snow sticking around for days around May long weekend.
Back at it on Monday the 17th with a new plan to get a second 84' Seedhawk rolling. By May 18th going hard on canola with both drills. This was awesome but stretched all the manpower thin, running the drills and keeping them full of seed, fertilizer and fuel. There was (and still is) water in places I've never seen water so it was tough going thru the nights.
We have great emergence across the board on cereals and even the first canola is up in only one week. It is growing crazy hard with these high temps now.
Thankful for a good start and good luck to everyone still rolling in tougher conditions!
Time for a beer like the one in the last photo. This Prairie Pilsner from is a beauty. After chilling this one (appropriately for 2026 in a snowbank), I was able to drink this one on the field where we planted our new crop barley.
