Next cow to calve was Ms 24, one of my original herd. Of course, she needs to bring all the 🙄
She’s never had twins for me before. So when I saw her with a new calf I was 🥰 guess I’m tagging a calf tomorrow.
But then I saw another shivering, slimy thing in an icy, 💩 puddle. Poor thing! She’d had this one first, left him and had a second! 😱
Immediately got him wrestled out of his birth place onto some straw and ran to get the calf sled and a towel. Of course, needed to include the youngest kiddo because he was to be her 🍀 project!
We got him tucked into the warmth of the round pen and made him a bottle of colostrum. He figured that out right away!
She named him Tex because he was so big when he was born plus the mark on his forehead kinda looked like an outline of .
Weighed him and his brother the next day… 91 lbs for Tex and 88 lbs for his brother! Ms 24 pushed out a combined 179 lbs!! 😱😱
She’s excited to show him at our next month.

My last heifer for this year finally calved April 18th (yep falling so far behind I think I’m ahead 😅)
A good, strong heifer calf weighing in at 82lbs. She chose the most beautiful night for me to lose sleep… the were out in full force and putting on a spectacular show 😍
Just over a week after she was born, they had been kicked out with the rest of the herd for a couple days and the calf came up sick. Looked bloaty but not out the side like normal. More at the bottom. Called my amazing neighbour for his opinion and he came over to help. Caught her, gave her some meds and decided she needed to spend the night in the garage. By morning, she’d pooped blood a couple times so I gave her some more meds and left her in there until just after lunch.
She seemed to be doing a little better… I honestly wasn’t sure if she was going to make the night but at that point we got her through the worst of it. I gave her some more meds and brought her out to see her mama. Literally ran to her, crawled through the fence and started nursing. They got penned up again so I could keep an eye on her.
The next morning she still wasn’t 100% but doing way better. She got more medicine and is now completely recovered and I’m so happy I was out checking late that night because she’d been fine earlier in the day.

Miss Barbie finally had a calf after slipping hers last year. As our most mature heifer, this was a long awaited arrival and she did not disappoint. She’s a great mama… very protective and a little intimidating with those horns 😅

I forgot to get my selfie with the crazy little heifer she produced but at least she lets me get close enough to get one with them both.

We had our first calf out of our original crew of cows on April 17th (yes I am falling farther and farther behind in posting 😅).
Ms 47 had a big, beautiful heifer calf right after the first one that morning.
A couple days after that, she gave me a bit of a scare as she got stepped on. No major injuries but was feeling kind of out of sorts for a while. I eventually gave her some meds and calf perk. She made a great recovery after that.
And as my favourite heifer of this season, she has a name. My coworker said she should be named Charlie.
So, meet Miss Charlie 💖

Falling behind again!! 🤦🏼‍♀️
This little beauty was born on April 17th… already dried off and nursing when I got out to do checks after the kids went to school. Such a great mama 🥰

Wow!! Have I ever been slacking on updating the page on the new calves that hit the ground 😅

We’ve had 5 more since then 🤯

Ms Puzzle, who you might remember had a grey calf named Simba last year, had another grey bull calf! He’s the spitting image of his brother… it’s uncanny. I keep calling him Simba 2.0 😅

He was born the day before Simba’s birthday. And only 5 pounds heavier than Simba was at birth. At least she’s consistent!

He’s definitely a little cutie and Puzzle is such a good mama 💖
