🎬 This year, CRAFTED on the Catwalk not only honours North of North’s profound cultural impact on Northern fashion—it also celebrates the show’s Season 2 premiere alongside members of the North of North cast!⁠

✨ This one-of-a-kind fashion show will spotlight designers and makers from Manitoba, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, Nunatsiavut, and Nunavik.⁠

🥂 The Sept 15 evening begins at 6:30pm with a ch*****ne reception and hors d’oeuvres in the galleries. Wander through the Living Lookbook, where models and artists will show amazing jewellery and accessories that will be available for purchase at the NORTH OF NORTH Market on Sept 16 and CRAFTED: Show + Sale, Nov 6-8

👠 The runway show begins at 8pm in the WAG Main Hall. Embark on a fashion journey featuring over 200 looks spanning Canada’s South and North, leading right into North of North’s ‘Ice Cove’! Enjoy a post-runway reception and meet-and-greet with some of the cast from North of North!⁠

It’s here! Fresh from the mill and just in time for Manitoba Fibre Festival. There’s Archie, always a solid crowd favourite. The dark roving is Agust, who knocked it out of the park this year with long, soft locks made for spinning. Lastly our resident white fluffy cloud April, with her bouncy fleece that’s lovely for spinning and felting. Pay me a visit St. Norbert Farmers' Market tomorrow, or see me at fibre fest next weekend.

Did you know… buckskin is a handcrafted textile that has never been successfully industrialized? Buckskin is washable, wind resistant, and somewhat stretchy, and feels luxurious to wear. All that good stuff from hides that generally enter the waste stream. This week has been “deer week”, getting through the last of the hides given to me by friends last fall and winter. I’ve got a nice collection now to start to smoke. Stay tuned for some golden brown hides 💛

🦌 Join me for my last in-person workshop of the year to learn to create buckskin from salvaged whitetail deer hides. We will be working as a group to finish hides on Day 1, and sewing our own mittens to take home on Day 2.

It was such a pleasure host these artisans from the costume design crew of Little House on the Prairie for an intensive 2 day sheepskin tanning course. I think we all felt a little wilted from the heat, but they were troopers!
That’s it for sheepskin classes for the summer. You’ll find me next weekend at the cultural pavilion Íslendingadagurinn, stop in Sunday and Monday to say hello.
