These are garlic shoots already pushing through.

They’ll be harvested months from now,
but they’re being grown for someone today.

That’s what CSA is.
A commitment to the season before it fully arrives.

We’ve started planting.
Now we’re finalizing who we’re growing for.

⏳ CSA sign-ups close April 15.

You’re looking at the very first signs of the season 🌱

Before the markets.

There’s this….
Garlic breaking through cold soil.
Greens filling the greenhouse.
Life returning, quietly… then all at once.

This is where your food begins.

And when you join our CSA, you’re not just buying vegetables-you’re stepping into the season with us, from the very start.

With the snow finally melting, we took a walk through the farm to check on our overwintered onions, already waking up and pushing new growth. Nearby, our daikon radish cover crop has winter-killed, naturally breaking down to feed the soil and prepare the beds for the next crops. Nature doing its quiet work beneath the surface.

This is where the season truly begins —
tiny seedlings, healthy soil, and big hopes for the harvest ahead.

And the best part? You can be part of it from the very beginning.

🥕 Our 2026 CSA shares are now open, and the first harvest begins May 16. When you join, you’re reserving a weekly share of the freshest vegetables grown right here at SARN Farms all season long.

🌱 Spring is quietly unfolding at Downsview Park.

This morning: -9°C (feels like -13°C).
Still winter on paper. Still frost in the air.

But look closer at the forecast…

☀️ Above zero by Tuesday
🌧 Rain midweek-softening the soil
🌤 10–16°C by next weekend
That’s not winter holding on.
That’s spring finding its way back.

On the farm, this is the in-between season:
Seed trays are filling.
Tunnels are warming.
Plans are turning into plants.

Every rising degree means:
🌿 Roots waking up
🌱 Spinach and greens preparing to push
📦 CSA season getting closer

This is how the season begins — not loudly, but steadily.

Spring isn’t here all at once.
It arrives degree by degree.

And we’re ready for it. 🌞

The other day someone told me they didn’t know onions are grown from seed.

And it reminded me how disconnected many of us have become from how food is actually produced.

Food doesn’t begin at the grocery store.
It begins in soil, patience, planning, and tiny seeds months before harvest.

This season at SARN Farms, we’re opening more space for volunteers, families, and anyone curious about the growing process. Bring your kids. Ask questions. Touch the soil. See how food truly gets to your table.

Because food literacy matters.
And every onion starts as a seed 🌱

🌱 Building Resilience in Every Season 🌱

Today was all about preparation, teamwork, and investing in the future of our farm.

From bending rebars under the warm September sun, to shaping fresh beds for fall greens, and finally raising the hoops for one of our new caterpillar tunnels. This day was a reminder that farming is as much about building as it is about growing.

With the support of our friend Jessey , we wrapped up with a brand new tunnel standing tall, ready to protect tender greens from the unpredictable months ahead.

This is more than just infrastructure. It’s our commitment to season extension, ensuring that even when the weather turns, your tables will still be filled with crisp, fresh, and nourishing greens.

🍂 Fall CSA shares are now open! Join us at www.sarnfarms.ca and be part of a community that eats local, healthy, and resilient through every season.
