TICKET SALES IN BIO - ROOTED IN SOIL
What if the story of good food began much earlier than the kitchen?
It begins beneath our feet.
On Monday, September 28, we’re opening the farm for an evening exploring the connection between healthy soil, the food we grow, and the health of the people and communities we feed.Rooted in Soil is the opening workshop in The Power of Food, a series built around one simple idea: if we want to understand food differently, we have to start at the source.
The evening will move from the practical to the scientific to the human.
Arlene Lynette , Manager of the Urban Farm at TMU at Toronto Metropolitan University ,will lead our headline session on Crop Planning & Rotation for Market Gardeners, exploring nutrient cycling and crop rotation as a management system for productive market-scale growing.
Alexandre Parrott-Mautner, Founder of Ryzome Environmental, will take us beneath the surface with The Science of Good Soil, exploring the biology and chemistry of living soil and how nutrients become available to plants.
Dr. Frank Nhan of Curate Health will continue the journey with From Soil to Food to Health, connecting soil quality to nutrient density and ultimately to human health and well-being.
And before all of that, I’ll share why we created this workshop and why reconnecting growers, eaters and city residents to the ground beneath their food matters.
Dinner will be part of the story too.
Our partner Meza Group Catering & Events will curate dinner using harvest from Zawadi Farm, turning what is growing in the field into what we share around the table.
We are also grateful to Zawadi Connections for sponsoring Rooted in Soil and helping make this gathering possible.
This is not simply an evening about farming.
It is an evening about understanding the system that connects soil, plants, food, health and community.
