Kensington Market BIA Volunteer board of directors for Toronto's Kensington Market, the beating heart of downtown Toronto Dry goods shops sit next to fishmongers.

Kensington Market BIA
Kensington Market area has been known as a cultural mosaic of Canada for centuries. Waves of immigrants – European Jews, Chinese, Portuguese, Jamaican – have made Kensington Market their own before moving on to make room for the next tile of our cultural mosaic. Those culturally rich populations have left their mark on the community, a few square blocks of small food-centric merchants. Here, shopping is an activity, not a chore, as if supermarkets were never invented. Piles of ripe produce share airspace with the strong smells wafting out of cheese shops. An entire street is dedicated to second-hand clothing stores, perennially supplying the neighbourhood with the young looking for a bargain. While the number of food shops has dwindled, those remaining and emerging become more refined. Now there is a butcher focusing on Ontario meats, a farm-minded organic produce shop. Residents and merchants have rallied around the exclusion of large corporate interests to keep the neighbourhood a community. The hectic streets of Kensington, a chaotic patchwork of bylaws and cultures, can confound city planners and residents alike. But that’s what keeps it fresh. Councillor

Alphabet Dating: Letter K! We took our date night to Kensington Market for an epic mini food crawl 🌮🍕🍔

📍 Stop 1: Taco Love
Shared a taco combo box (steak, shrimp, fish, barbacoa, chicken) plus a chorizo torta with chips and guac. The best way to try a little bit of everything!

📍 Stop 2: Pizzeria da Mario
Huge, handmade slices loaded with cheese and flavor. At only $4.95 a slice, you genuinely can’t beat the value!

📍 Stop 3: Crack Burger
They slow-cook their onions for 3-4 hours, and it makes all the difference. That jalapeño crack burger lived up to the hype!
