Fiji Rice Limited was first established as Rewa Rice Limited in the early 1960's. After the government of Fiji took over the Colonial Sugar Refinery (CSR), the government took action to provide employment to people who have been left jobless after the closure of CSR. However, the climatic conditions in the Central Divisions did not suit the sugar cane planting thus Rice was introduced as an alte

rnative crop. Over the years, the company has tried to leverage from the financial constraints, reforms of productivity and supply of quality rice but has been lacking aspects of self - sustainability.
