We've had some lovely feedback from the head gardener of Somerville College, Oxford 🌿

Alastair Mallick and his team have been using our mulch to lay the foundations for these glorious mixed beds in the college grounds.

He is delighted at how good they are looking - particularly after our long, dry spring.

Proof that our peat-free, nutrient-rich mulch locks in essential moisture, which is key to flourishing beds all summer long.

🌱 Question of the week 🌱

Is Apsley Farms' mulch safe for animals?

Yes! Our mulch is safe for pets.

Dogs like to lie on it when it's hot, and even the foxes enjoy bedding down for the night... 🦊 🐶 💚

Have you been to see the roses at Mottisfont yet?🌹

There are over 400 varieties of pre-1900 shrub roses in the walled garden - a world of fragrance and colour that's hard to imagine unless you've experienced it.

Behind the scenes, the talented gardening team put enormous care into preparing those beds, using our mulch to restore soil quality, nourish worms, and retain moisture ahead of the season.

The roses may soar, but it's the soil that does the heavy lifting.

Make sure it's you partying in your garden this summer, and not your weeds!

If you want to dress your garden beds for your summer BBQ parties, improve water retention during hot days, and spend less time weeding, then we have just the product for you.

Our rich, dark summer top dressing is mulch that has spent the last few months maturing.

It has a high moisture content and the fertilizer strength has been reduced compared to our ‘fresh’ mulch.

Spread it over your beds and reap the benefits straight away.

Dress your garden beds to impress this summer! 🌸

Our Summer Dressing is aged mulch that has been maturing on the farm for the last three months.

Darker than our fresh mulch and with a higher moisture content, Summer Dressing gives a stunning, professional finish to your beds and borders.

Spread over your beds in a 2" - 3" layer, and rake through to give a level finish.

It's the perfect way to lock in moisture, feed your soil, and reduce weeding during the drier summer months.

Rose season starts at Mottisfont today 🌹

If you haven't been, it's one of those things that really is just as extraordinary as everyone says!

Mottisfont's walled garden houses the National Collection of pre-1900 shrub roses, which creates a glorious annual spectacle in early summer.

Over 400 varieties of fragrant roses bloom during peak season, which runs from May 21 - June 13.

What fewer visitors will know is what went into preparing those beds.

This spring, the Mottisfont gardening team spent a lot of time using our mulch to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and feed the soil ahead of the season.

That essential groundwork is a big part of why the roses look the way they do every year, and we're very proud to play a small part in something so special.
