The heat continues to beat down at Spratsbourne, with these long, dry sunny days scorching the fields. On the drive down to Block you’ll see our Sussex cattle taking summer in their stride.
Sussex cattle are a hardy native breed, well suited to life outdoors through the changing seasons. On the hottest days they naturally slow down, seeking shade and grazing more in the cooler mornings and evenings, we’re keeping plenty of fresh water available across the farm. Believe it or not, an adult cow can drink at around 14 litres a minute when at the trough.
That slower pace is part of life on the estate right now. If you’re visiting the counter, why not take a gentle stroll through the beautiful shaded woodland to escape the sun.
