🇮🇳🤝🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Looking back on a landmark week for in India.

Our first dedicated trade mission to brought together Bakkafrost Scotland, Loch Duart Salmon, Mowi Scotland and Scottish Sea Farms Ltd, supported by the UK India Business Council and Forum of Indian Food Importers, to build new relationships in one of the world’s largest fish markets.

Across and , the delegation's programme brought engagement with importers, distributors, retailers, hotel buyers and chefs, alongside the British High Commission, Indian government officials, customs and food safety authorities.

Those conversations matter because the UK-India trade agreement has removed the 33% tariff on Scottish , creating significantly improved access to the Indian market. Our analysis suggests that opportunity could be worth up to £130 million over the next decade.

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared their expertise and explored how we can build lasting connections between Scotland and India.

Sometimes doing your bit means going a little further. 🌊

The Scottish Sea Farms Ltd Setterness team in Sheltand chose a remote beach close to their farms for a recent beach clean. With access only practical by small craft, reaching the shoreline was a challenge in itself.

Over two days, the team covered around 2 km, filling 14 bags with rubbish and debris and recovering a piece of buried net and rope weighing more than 1.5 tonnes.

Shetland’s weather and tides don’t always make plans easy, so a big well done to the team for finding a way to get out there and help clean up this remote part of the coastline.

Understanding how our and recover at former farm sites is an important part of responsible . Fallow periods where farming is paused or stopped is common practice at our farms.

Research at a former Mowi Scotland farm site shows how recover after farming ends — with steady improvements in condition over time and all monitored areas reaching ‘Good Ecological Status’ within just three years.

Using a combination of seabed sampling, environmental DNA analysis, habitat mapping and photography, the study provides a detailed picture of how biodiversity returns post-closure. Monitoring focused on the tightly regulated ‘mixing zone’ around the site, demonstrating how impacts are limited in scale and recover quickly.

It’s part of the Scottish salmon sector’s wider commitment to monitoring, science and strict regulation — ensuring environments are protected during farming and continue to recover once sites are no longer in use.

Fantastic to see showcased at the King’s Birthday Party hosted by the British High Commission in New Delhi, with a culinary presentation from celebrated Chef Vineet Bhatia MBE.

It comes at an exciting moment for our sector. Following the removal of the 33% tariff under the UK-India trade agreement, Scottish producers have just completed their first dedicated trade mission to , meeting importers, retailers, hotel buyers and leading chefs in and .

Salmon Scotland analysis suggests this new market could be worth up to £130 million over the next decade, creating opportunities for Scotland’s producers and the coastal communities at the heart of our sector.

Our farmers take environmental stewardship very seriously.

need the highest quality water and to thrive. Looking after Scotland’s coastal waters is therefore not only the right thing to do, but fundamental to raising healthy salmon.

Farms operate within clearly defined environmental limits, supported by modelling, monitoring, and fallowing to protect seabed and water quality.

Scottish salmon have lots of space to swim and shoal naturally. Pens are more than 98 per cent clean, oxygen-rich seawater, with having one of the lowest stocking densities of any salmon-producing country.
