We’ve shared this about “ghost transactions”.

If it’s shows as two payments, one will reappear in your account as there is no transaction number for the second one to be claimed by.

Any abuse towards staff because of this will be met with the same level. Staff are not to blame for this and have the right to be respected while they work.

Sometimes, a payment can show up as ‘successful,’ but the money has not actually been transferred. This phenomenon, often called a Ghost Payment, can be confusing.

Ghost Payments occur when the front-end system records a transaction as completed, but the back-end settlement engine hasn't yet synced. The result is a temporary mismatch that makes it look like things are going well. Once the systems agree and update their ledgers, these problems typically fade away on their own.

For customers, understanding this concept offers clarity during those rare moments when a transaction seems to ‘go through’ but the funds remain untouched. It’s not an error—it’s simply the system catching up.

Ghost Payments highlight how complicated and delicate digital payments really are, even when they seem to work perfectly.

If you are in need of any more clarity on these “ghost transactions” please don’t hesitate to ask a member of the team or contact Co-op customer services.
