Can Future Food Be a Solution to Rising Food Prices?
As economic conditions continue to change in Myanmar and around the world, people’s daily consumption habits and food choices are changing as well. On one hand, people are facing economic downturns and income pressures. On the other hand, inflation is causing the cost of food to increase.
In particular, chicken, meat, fish, and eggs are important sources of protein in people’s daily diets. However, as their prices continue to rise, it is becoming more difficult for families to afford and consume them as regularly as before.
In this situation, Future Food is becoming increasingly relevant. Future Food is not something that will only appear in the distant future. Many Future Food products and solutions are already becoming part of our everyday lives.
In particular, Alternative Protein and Plant-based Protein are clear examples. When meat and animal-based protein become less affordable, protein-rich products can be developed using beans, legumes, soybeans, and other plant-based sources.
These alternatives can help address people’s needs for nutrition, affordability, and long-term environmental sustainability.
For food business founders, this can also become an opportunity. In Myanmar, beans and legumes are already familiar and widely available food resources. By making use of these local resources, entrepreneurs can create affordable and nutritious Future Food products.
For example, instead of consuming beans and legumes in their traditional forms, they can be transformed into value-added products such as plant-based milk, plant-based meat, protein snacks, and protein powder.
Therefore, rising food prices are not only a challenge but can also create new opportunities and pathways for food business founders.
If you are interested in exploring more about “How can we create affordable and nutritious sources of protein in new ways as people’s need for protein continues to grow?”, you can join the “Shaping the Future of Food” Webinar by the Global Food Safety Institute.
