Mating is well underway here at Donald's Farm.

This is our first week into a 10 week round and 40% of the herd have been inseminated already

Fingers crossed for a successful mating season, 9 weeks to go.

CRV have very kindly given us all the semen for our Jersey cows.

Bridging the gap between urban and city folk one calf at a time.
Each year children from Brookby School have the opportunity to raise a calf on farm for their school Ag Day. They spent the entirety of Term 3 consistently showing up after school to spend time with their calves.
The children put so much time,love and care into their calves.
Of course it's not about the ribbons but we also love it when they can celebrate with their calves too.

🚨 BUNNINGS BROUGHT REINFORCEMENTS. 🚨

Yesterday Anthony from Bunnings Botany returned to Donald’s Farm… but this time he clearly decided one man wasn’t enough.

So he brought the bloody whole crew with him!

Store Managers from G.I. right through to Takanini turned up ready to get stuck into some much-needed fence work. Armed with hammers, staples, insulators, gloves and an alarming amount of enthusiasm, they got stuck in and smashed out a heap of work.

Meanwhile, Bryan had another squad deployed on the farm’s most wanted list…

🌿 WOOLLY NIGHTSHADE. 🌿

That bloody stuff has been causing trouble, so the weed-whacking crew went in for the takedown.

Honestly, there’s nothing quite like having a bunch of Bunnings managers turn up on the farm and voluntarily pick up hammers and pull weeds. We’re not sure what they were promised, but we’re absolutely not asking.

A massive thank you to Anthony and the entire Bunnings crew for giving up their time, getting their hands dirty and helping us get a few jobs ticked off the never-ending farm list.

Because around here…

The results are in!!

Our Shorthorn,Marama, is a whopping 92.5kg!!

Someone was only 200g out from her weight when playing the guessing game! This pretty girl is one of only 2 replacement shorthorns that came thru this season. Her buddy is much younger than her and has some serious growing up to do to catch up with her 😉

Marama was born July 6th,she's a cuddly calf and a real little sookie. We're looking forward to raising her here at Donalds Farm. We hope she still LOVES cuddles when she's a big girl!

This one absolutely deserves a spot on the grid!

This is Logan with our beautiful Shorthorn, Marama — who is basically just a big giant baby with legs. 😂🤎

Logan has been coming to Donald’s Farm for years, raising a calf for Brookby School Ag Day and taking one along to the local A&P show.

And honestly, we love seeing the kids come back year after year. They arrive as city kids… and before long they’re covered in calf slobber, mud and probably wondering why their “pet” has decided to ignore them. 😂

There’s something pretty cool about watching kids get stuck into farm life, learn how to care for an animal and make a few memories along the way.

Connecting the city folk to agriculture… one slightly naughty, very cute calf at a time. 😉🐄

And yes, Marama is definitely still convinced she’s a brand new baby🤣
