Organic Cavolo Nero.

Kale, but with a b-com in dark arts.

Rich in vitamins A, C and K, full of fibre, antioxidants and other things nutritionists get excited about.

Roasted and salted, however, it abandons science altogether and becomes something closer to witchcraft.

We’ll be putting this theory to the test on Wednesday with a Cavolo Nero-topped minestrone from 11am.

Failing that, there’s plenty in store if you’d rather take it home and brew something unsettling in your own cauldron.

No promises on immortality. Just lunch.

If Don Corleone, a Buddhist temple and
Frida Kahlo’s wardrobe were a soup.

Not a sentence we expected to write this morning either.

But here we are: Pumpkin, cannellini beans, green salsa, coriander, pumpkin seeds and sourdough croutons.

Italian/Thai/Mexican (con)fusion.
Ready from 11.

The weather’s being a bit dramatic.
Fortunately, so is lunch.

Beef Bourguignon, with organic beef no less.
Potato Gratin, also made with organic Agria. And friends.

Slow-cooked, heart-warming, and exactly what today requires.

Ready from 11 today.

Take it for lunch, or keep your hands off it until dinner. We won’t tell anyone.

New this Wednesday…

Organic Spelt Sourdough from .bakery
Handmade on Waiheke.

(Baked here, eaten here - that’s the general idea).

Spelt is one of the oldest grains around, bringing a gentle nutty flavour and a soft, satisfying crumb. Many people find it easier to digest than modern wheat, and it’s naturally rich in protein and fibre too.

We’ll be slicing up a loaf for tasting in-store from Wednesday, so if you’d like to try some, just ask. Be warned though: “just a taste” has been known to turn into “I’ll take a loaf.”

Fresh oysters.
Fresh lemons.
Fresh air.
Some combinations don’t need improving.
Ostra & Co are shucking live now outside the store, turning perfectly good oysters into an even better reason to stop what you’re doing.

A squeeze of lemon.
A taste of Te Matuku Bay.
A moment of island happiness.

The sea did most of the work.
We’re just here facilitating.

Organic Brussels sprouts stalks are here.

Most people are surprised to discover Brussels sprouts don’t actually originate in plastic bags. They grow like this: clinging heroically to a stalk, looking like a medieval weapon designed by a vegetarian.
(And yes, you can eat the stalk too).

Roast it. Slice it. Shave it into salads. Or present the whole thing dramatically at the centre of the table like you’ve just returned from a successful hunting expedition.

A fitting addition to any King’s Birthday feast.
Organic Brussels sprout stalks in store now.

Long live the sprout.

Today’s tasting! The Hungarian Artisan.

Real salami. Made slowly.

No shortcuts, no mystery ingredients, no department dedicated to “optimising shareholder value.”
Just traditional Hungarian recipes, quality New Zealand meat, time, patience, and the increasingly radical idea that good things are worth waiting for.

They’re in store from 12–3pm sharing the fruits of their labour. And when we say labour, we mean months of curing, fermenting and carefully tending salami so you can casually eat a slice while deciding what to have for lunch.

It’s King’s Birthday Weekend after all.
Come and eat accordingly.
See you from 12.

Kings Birthday Weekend.

He gets a public holiday. You get to taste things. Seems fair.

So yes, we (as in the Royal “we”, ie: Mannon) organised a small feast in honour of the occasion.

Saturday 12-3:
Hungarian Artisan sausages. Authentic, handcrafted, and dangerously easy to “I shouldn’t, but yes I will just try one more piece, and can I take some for my friend.”

Sunday:
Luc from Frenchman’s Hill Estate pouring the most exceptional Waiheke wines with the quiet confidence of a man who knows they’re good. 11 - 12.30, gentrified hours.

Also Sunday from 9 - 1pm, Loïc from Ostra & Co returns with fresh Te Matuku oysters, shucked on the spot and still carrying strong opinions about the ocean.

A King could hardly ask for more.
Then again, a king probably doesn’t have to queue for oysters.

See you this weekend. 👑🍷🦪

Ostra & Co are back streetside today, shucking oysters fresh while the sun still hangs around, and besides…

The sea’s salty.
The sky’s blue.
Someone’s wearing linen unnecessarily.

In other words, it’s the right day for it.

So come and see Te Matuku oysters, opened before your very eyes.
Have one. Have six. Linger dramatically with a squeeze of lemon and nowhere urgent to be.
This is the island life after all, and nothing says it better than an oyster down the hatch.

See you this today, 9-1.

It’s messy. It’s excessive. It will almost certainly end up on your shirt, again.

🍅
Today’s special (because you loved it last time): the “Hot Meatball Sub”.
Organic beef meatballs, melted provolone, our definitely-not-yet-famous-but-will-be-soon secret tomato sauce, all tucked into a sourdough baguettini that frankly deserved a quieter life.

$16.90, ready now!
