Inside my weekly food shop: $75 for 10 meals for 2.
This week I’m making:
Tortilla wrap kebabs
Pesto pasta & meatballs
Bang bang fried rice
Nandos platter
Bacon avocado chicken salad
Every dinner gives us lunch the next day so that’s 20 meals in total for $75.
I already had chicken thighs, steak, eggs, spaghetti, rice, wraps and a bunch of pantry staples. The only proteins I needed to buy were beef mince, pork mince and bacon. Buying proteins in bulk when they’re on special and keeping them in the freezer is one of the easiest ways to bring the weekly shop down.
I also used what was already in the fridge and garden such as spring onions, broccoli, carrots, lemons and fresh basil and parsley, which meant I only needed to grab a few fresh items at the supermarket.
As a dietitian I’m always thinking about variety across the week. This lineup covers chicken, beef, pork and plant-based protein sources across five dinners which means we’re getting a good range of nutrients without even thinking about it.
