Green Gorilla

Green Gorilla Currently, approximately 85% of Auckland landfill waste comes from businesses. In 12 months, our facility can divert over 30,000 tonnes of waste from landfills.

Recycling and waste collection services for Auckland, Waikato & Tauranga. 🌳 For qoutes, orders and service areas visit https://www.greengorilla.co.nz/order-bag-skip/ For Transfer Station information visit https://www.greengorilla.co.nz/our-facilities/ Our company mission is to develop and provide sustainable waste and recycling solutions that maximise recovery and re-use and divert waste from Au

ckland landfills. In Auckland, construction and demolition produce nearly 570,000 tonnes of waste a year, roughly half the entire landfill volume and equivalent to 23,155 shipping containers of rubbish. Green Gorilla's Construction and Demolition Waste Processing Facility diverts more than 75% of incoming construction and demolition waste from Auckland's landfills. The processing facility is vital in reducing landfills and creating recycled by-products. Our wood-chipping operation turns treated wood into biofuel and untreated wood into landscaping chips and animal bedding. A plasterboard processing plant separates gypsum for use in the horticultural and agricultural sectors. Our Commercial and Industrial Waste Processing Facility is the most modern waste sorting process of its kind in Australasia, the largest in New Zealand and the only one in Auckland. This 100% electric facility can recover up to 40% of the general waste that had previously gone to landfills. We separate recyclable materials from landfill waste at our facility—recyclables like metal, cardboard and paper, glass and plastic bottles. For businesses that have been unable to sort and separate their waste, this facility will do it for them. That's about the same weight as one hundred and sixty 747 jumbo jets! Green Gorilla collects over 50,000 kg of organic waste each week. We provide a food waste collection service for businesses that cannot compost their food scraps themselves. First, we collect your compostable waste and then take it to a large-scale compost facility. Farms in the Pukekohe and Bombay areas use fresh compost to grow more food for Auckland.

A fantastic day at the NZGBC Green Property Summit 2026 🌿🏢

It was great to see so many people from across the property and sustainability sectors come together to share ideas, challenge thinking and explore how we can create better buildings and communities for the future.

We were especially proud to see Green Gorilla CEO Elaine Morgan recognised with a Green Champion Award — a well-deserved acknowledgement of her leadership and commitment to driving more sustainable outcomes for Aotearoa.

Congratulations to Elaine, the other award recipients, and the NZGBC team for delivering another strong event. 🌿🏢

At Green Gorilla, we’re proud to be part of the conversation and to keep pushing for smarter, more circular ways of managing resources and waste across New Zealand.

Congratulations to the New Zealand Green Building Council on a sold-out Green Property Summit 2026.
Green Gorilla is proud to be supporting the Summit as Sustainability Sponsor for the third year. It is a strong fit with our sustainability approach and our ongoing work to reduce waste, recover resources, and help the construction and property sectors make better decisions about what happens to materials once they leave site.
On 11 August, more than 300 industry leaders, professionals and decision-makers will come together for a day of practical insights, discussion and connection, with an additional 50+ attending the special political panel in collaboration with the New Zealand Construction Industry Council.
The built environment has a real opportunity to reduce waste and improve recovery outcomes, but it takes practical action across the whole project lifecycle — from planning and procurement through to site separation, collections, processing and reporting.
We’re looking forward to being part of the conversation and supporting an event focused on building a more sustainable Aotearoa.

sustainablecoastlines event, what a great local initiative. As one of our staff members who joined the 100-strong team put it: “Despite thinking my local beach was spotless, I was shocked by how much plastic and hidden litter we uncovered during a community cleanup at Onehunga’s Taumanu Reserve. It was incredibly rewarding to make new friends, get a little muddy, and make a tangible difference—proving that even the cleanest-looking places can still use a hand!”
