From One Trick Pony to Cryo Fresh: Epic’s Next Hop Experiment

For more than 20 years, Epic has had a fairly uncomplicated obsession: hops.

Not hops as decoration. Not hops because IPA happens to be fashionable. Hops as an ingredient worth pulling apart, comparing, experimenting with and occasionally pushing far beyond what seemed sensible at the time.

That philosophy has led us through new hop varieties, new ways of using them and, over the years, some genuinely new hop technology.

Now it has led us to Cryo Fresh.

With Electric Pony IPA, we are using Yakima Chief Hops’ new Cryo Fresh Mosaic for the first time. This is also the first commercial b**r brewed with Cryo Fresh in New Zealand.

But Electric Pony didn’t appear out of nowhere. It sits at the end of a pretty long trail of hop experiments.

We gotta a job going at the Epic Taproom. Do you know anyone?

"We’re looking for a friendly, capable Duty Manager to support both our General Manager and our Epic Founder in running our busy, taproom.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being part of a close-knit team, thrives in a dynamic hospitality environment, and takes pride in creating a welcoming experience for both customers and staff."

Super happy with how this b**r has turned out using the new Cryo Fresh Mosaic hops from Yakima Chief Hops Part of the series. It reminds me of drinking b**rs in Yakima during hop harvest. Cryer Malt **r

⚡ THE COUNTDOWN IS ON. ELECTRIC PONY IS COMING. ⚡

We’ve taken our most popular One Trick Pony Mosaic IPA and electrified it with Cryo Fresh Mosaic from Yakima Chief Hops.

Cryo Fresh starts with freshly harvested, un-kilned whole-cone hops. Instead of going through the traditional drying process, they’re immediately frozen to preserve their delicate aromas and essential hop oils, then put through Yakima Chief’s cryogenic process to concentrate the lupulin into intensely aromatic fresh-hop pellets.

The result is that bright, green, just-picked hop character normally associated with harvest, but in a form we can get all the way to New Zealand while keeping it frozen.
