Daisy's pretty happy to have this years crop of sale bulls under her management again - 12 cracking weaner bulls that will be aimed to sell at our annual yearling bull sale with Colraine Herefords and Arabica Herefords in September.

We really should be gearing up for weaning - but last week's storm and subsequent slips at our 'Kotare Farm' - affecting the fencing - and the on-going closure of Corcoran Road below the home farm, which is likely to effect stock transport - these girls are just going to have to put up with their calves for a bit longer.

Luckily both farms have plenty of feed and all stock are doing exceptionally well - including this outstanding young cow Kanuka Quail 2109 and her Kanuka Paddington sired heifer Kanuka Unicorn 2511.

Really love seeing these younger cows starting to blossom into real matrons

Kanuka Quail 2109 is unique in being the only Days Horizon daughter in our herd, with a mid August heifer calf at foot sired by our homebred herdsire Kanuka Paddington, the aptly named Kanuka Unicorn - she is pretty special and one of this years best.

Kanuka Orient - a Benchmark Dam and the granddaughter of a Platinum Benchmark Dam.
She's the dam of Kanuka Redeem - herdsire at Matatoki Herefords and now Orari Gorge Herefords, the dam of Kanuka Samurai - standing at Arabica Herefords, Kanuka Tamiko - a very nice yearling heifer and this year, another stunner with Kanuka Umi - a late July born daughter of new US sire SHF Kilogram.

And just like that another sale is done and dusted

A great result with 7 of 8 bulls sold through the auction ring for an average of $4,314 and a top of $5,100.
Thank you to all bidders, underbidders and supporters of the 3 studs today - some great bulls are heading off to make their mark for some great people.

Now time to watch the 2026 sale team start to flourish in the spring and plan the mating for the 2027 offering......

Videos of our yearling bulls are up on the bidr website for our upcoming sale on Tuesday 9th September.

Kanuka Thumper below is our first bull up at Lot 3 and we think he's a pretty special bull. A later born, 2 year-old heifers first calf, he was the heaviest calf weaned out of all our calves and has continued to be one of the heavyweights. On paper he has a really balanced set of EBVs with a low birthweight (top 15%), good growth (top 20%) and exceptional carcass traits.

Nice view from the deck this afternoon at the Kotare Farm, looking east towards Mt Kakepuku.

Calving's all finished, all done in just over 30 days on the 2 farms, meaning we can focus fully on our annual yearling bull sale coming up in just over 2 weeks on 9th September with Colraine Herefords and Arabica Herefords.
