We just had to share this very special moment! đź’š

Dr Ron Beatson at his investiture ceremony at Government House in Wellington, where he was presented with the insignia of an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to horticulture by Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Cindy Kiro, Governor-General of New Zealand.

We couldn’t be prouder of you, Dr Ron. After more than 40 years of passion, dedication and leadership, your contribution to the development of New Zealand’s hop varieties has been truly remarkable.

You are a legend, Dr Ron, and it has been our absolute honour to work with you.

Congratulations on this very well-deserved recognition! 🌿👏 💚

Let me take you back to the 2010s, aka the teens. Bitcoin was making headlines, Netflix was asking if we were still watching, and YouTube and Spotify were changing how we consumed content forever.

At the movies, it was undoubtedly the Marvel era. We danced the invisible horse dance to Gangnam Style, squeezed into skinny jeans, perfected the selfie, and spent countless hours scrolling our feeds. Drake, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Adele dominated our playlists, while Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad kept us glued to our screens.

It was also the decade when these little hop cones of deliciousness came out to play đź’š

Let me take you back to the noughties. We survived the Y2K bug, discovered social media, filled our pockets with iPods and later our hands with iPhones, and somehow convinced ourselves that low-rise jeans were a good idea.

Beyoncé, Eminem, Britney Spears, Coldplay, Usher, and Linkin Park were on repeat. Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean and Avatar had us rushing to the cinema, while The Sopranos, The Office and Lost kept us glued to our screens (although we’re still debating that ending).

More importantly these little beauties launched onto the global stage đź’š

🌿Here at NZ Hops our farmers use predator mites which are natural biological control agents used in hop farming to manage pests like Tetranychus urticae (two-spotted spider mite) and Panonychus ulmi (European red mite), which can damage hop plants. As part of integrated pest management (IPM), they offer a sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides, helping protect hop crops from mite infestations and ensuring high-quality, residue-free hops for brewing.💚
