A Heartfelt Thank You from Blue Water Natural Foods
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you.
When we made the decision to become an electronic payments and check-only store, we knew we were taking a big risk.
We understood that some customers might choose to shop elsewhere, and honestly, that was a scary decision for a small independent grocery store like ours.
What has touched me the most is how many of you chose to continue supporting Blue Water. Your encouragement, patience, and understanding have meant more than you probably realize.
Many people don't see what happens behind the scenes at a small business.
Blue Water isn't a large chain with separate departments for accounting, payroll, HR, maintenance, IT, purchasing, marketing, bookkeeping, or facilities.
There is just me.
Alongside my young daughters, who help me in the back office when they can, I handle the work that keeps the store operating every day.
That means payroll, bookkeeping, accounting, taxes, hiring, scheduling, vendor relations, ordering systems, IT, marketing, troubleshooting when something breaks, and making sure Blue Water is ready to open again every day of the year.
Like many small business owners, I've had to ask myself:
"How do I make this business sustainable so it can continue serving our community for many years to come—and still leave enough of me to enjoy life with my family?"
Going cashless wasn't about making life harder for our customers.
It was about making the business manageable.
It removes hours of cash handling, counting tills, preparing deposits, investigating shortages, and the stress that comes with all of those responsibilities.
Our employees have also been incredibly happy with the change. They can simply focus on taking care of customers.
I also want to say something to those of you who prefer using cash.
We truly understand.
Some of you cash your paycheck or Social Security check and simply prefer to use cash. Others value the privacy and simplicity that cash provides. We respect that, and we genuinely regret that this change has been difficult for you.
This decision was never meant to exclude anyone.
It was made because we needed to make Blue Water sustainable for the future.
Blue Water has always been a family business.
We're doing everything we can to keep this little store healthy.
Thank you for standing by us.
Thank you for shopping local.
Thank you for making sure that Blue Water can continue providing fresh organic produce and a full selection of organic and natural foods to families throughout the Big Bend for many years to come.
We are deeply grateful for every single one of you.
