Here’s a close-up look at a sod harvester at work in one of our Kentucky bluegrass fields. It may look like a lot of steel moving over the grass, but this is one of the steps behind the fresh sod that eventually gets rolled out in someone’s yard.

At Alltek Turf Sod Farm, we grow and harvest premium Kentucky bluegrass sod in Andover, Minnesota. We’re a third-generation family farm, and we’ve been farming since 1949. Every season, our crew works through changing weather and field conditions to cut fresh sod for homeowners, landscapers, contractors, builders, and anyone working on a lawn project.

The finished product is more than a green patch in a field. Each roll is about 2 feet by 6.75 feet, covering roughly 13.5 square feet. A full pallet covers 600 square feet. Once it’s delivered or picked up, the sod can turn a bare, uneven-looking space into a finished lawn much faster than waiting for seed to grow.

We harvest fresh sod daily through November, weather permitting. You can pick up at the farm or arrange delivery across the Twin Cities metro and into western Wisconsin.
