🐓 A new little addition to the farm school!

We have some new feathered friends joining us, and they’re bringing some BIG learning opportunities in a tiny package! 🤎

The children are getting to learn all about the Serama chicken, a tiny breed known for its beautiful appearance and confident personality. But did you know there’s more to these little chickens than just their size and pretty feathers?

✨ Seramas are known for their upright posture, full chest, high tail, and distinctive wing carriage. In show-quality birds, judges also look at feather quality and how confidently they carry themselves!

Who knew such a tiny animal could teach us so much? From observing unique animal characteristics to learning about different breeds and what makes each one special, there are so many opportunities for curiosity and discovery right here on the farm.

At Big Sky Farm School, learning doesn’t have to happen behind a desk. Sometimes, the best lessons come with feathers, four-legged friends, and a whole lot of questions. 🌾

One thing we love about this road rug is the reminder that not every road looks the same, and that’s okay! Every child has their own strengths, their own pace, and their own way of learning.

At Big Sky Farm Schoolhouse, we believe learning doesn’t have to fit inside one box. Sometimes it looks like hands-on activities on the floor, learning through play, working together, and discovering new things in ways that make sense for each child.

Our approach may look a little different from traditional schooling, and that’s intentional! We want to create an environment where children can grow in knowledge, build confidence, explore their God-given gifts, and learn with purpose.

Because different doesn’t mean less. And the road to learning doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. 💛

There is something so special about watching children learn to pray for one another, hold each other’s hands, and grow together in their walk with Jesus.

In a world that so often teaches children to focus on themselves, we want to teach them the importance of looking to Jesus, loving their neighbors, lifting their friends up in prayer, and letting their faith guide the way they live.

We believe some of life’s most important lessons happen in the quiet moments — when little hearts learn to pray, little voices learn to worship, and friendships are built on a foundation of Christ’s love.

At Big Sky Farm Schoolhouse, education is about more than academics. It’s about nurturing hearts, building character, growing in faith, and raising children who know that Jesus isn’t just a part of life — He is the foundation.

Because the greatest thing we can pour into our children is a love for Jesus, and one of the greatest gifts we can teach them to give one another is prayer. 🤍

My name is Sara Schaffner, Ms. Sara, for short. First and foremost, I love the Lord with all my heart! I was saved when I was 10 years old, and He truly gets sweeter every day! God blessed me to have 3 beautiful daughters and then gave me 3 bonus daughters and a bonus son. My husband, Joe, and I are coming up on our 2nd anniversary, so combined, we have a total of 14 grandchildren. God is so good!

I have worked in education for just over 20 years. My God-given passion has always been the children! I believe working in the Christian school is a mission field, and I am blessed that God would use me for His cause.

When I am not working, you can find Joe and myself in church, where he is the Assistant Pastor at Oakview Independent Church in Ashland KY. Joe is a preacher and the adult Sunday School teacher, and I teach the littles.
I love to sing the joys of the Lord. Not only do I sing in church, but also where I am invited to come sing. On Thursday evenings, I also sing Live on Facebook.

These are just a few of the ministries that God has placed us in.

I am honored and so excited to begin this journey that God has sent me on. I look forward to meeting our school families and getting to know your most prized joy, your kiddos!
