What's the "Buggy" do? During Thurman Maple Days, the Buggy is on it's Winter Tracks and is set-up for tapping trees, vacuum line maintenance and sap production. In the summer, it supports a TON of work in the woods including replacing "drop lines," mainline maintenance, soil conservation project work, brush cutting, trail-maintenance and many other tasks. In the summer, we trade hand warmers and the winter tracks for rubber tires and bug spray!

It's been a busy summer for us at Candy Mountain! We've invested a lot of time and effort into "reclaiming" and restoring the former sandpit area behind our sugarhouse. Over the last two years we installed natural rock retaining walls to stabilize the slope, added topsoil, with native Adirondack Grass and Wildflower seeds. You can see the results in the attached photos! Many thanks to the Warren County Soil Conservation folks for their advice! This work is part of our commitment as an AEM (Agriculture Environmental Management) Participating Farm.

We are proud to announce the arrival of "Mr and Mrs Phoebe's" quadruplets!! ...At least we think there are 4 hatchlings! In early May, an Eastern Phoebe built a nest under the shed roof by our generator! Over the last several weeks, we avoided working nearby to avoid disturbing the nest. We did sneak a couple of photos for you to enjoy!

What about the RO? How's that cleaned? Before we remove the RO membrane from the high pressure housing and put it into the summer sanitizer solution, the entire system goes through multiple buffered RO soap and, food grade citric acid washes followed by a thorough de-ionized water rinse to ensure organic contaminants and minerals are flushed out of the filter membrane. This process takes about 10 hours to complete. The membrane is then sealed in a "blue-tube" with sanitizer for storage until next season! We're "looped-up" and "cleaned-up" for the season! Our season ended on April 9. We made some really tasty Amber and Flavorful Dark Syrup this year. Thanks to everyone for visiting with us during Maple Days! We used plenty of good-old fashioned "ELBOW GREASE" to put a shine on all of our equipment both inside and out! All of our taps have been pulled, and the drop lines "looped-up" for the Summer. Here are some photos:
