It started with a question: what happens when you finish a J. Henry & Sons whiskey in a rum cask?

The answer is The Hero and The Genius — the first-ever rum-cask finished whiskeys from J. Henry & Sons, and a Two Souls exclusive.

We chose the barrels, determined the finishing time, and matched each whiskey to its cask. The result is two of the most intentional, balanced pours we’ve ever bottled.

🥃 The Hero: J. Henry 7-Year Rum-Cask Finished Bourbon. Big oak, subtle sweetness with a dry-sweet-dry finish that catches you off guard every time.

🥃 The Genius: J. Henry 7-Year Rum-Cask Finished Rye. Bold, chewy, dense — with a playful rum finish that has no business working this well.

Who wants a little behind the scenes? Karen here, and I’ll just say that James truly out did himself on this one!🤣

For this upcoming release you might’ve picked up on the Princess Bride theme, but did you know that I played ZERO part in the side stickers? Yup, that was all James. It was quite the delightful surprise, and honestly now I can’t stop thinking of myself as Wesley. 😂

Meet the Genius - it’s inconceivable.

We keep using that word… but when you taste this spirit, you’ll understand why.

This is the very first rum-finished rye from J. Henry & Sons, and we are quite proud of that. Which rum barrel? The Rum King barrel—“an absolutely insane rum” barrel (James’s words).

We aren’t ready to share the tasting notes yet - we just wanted to tease a bit with what’s to come!

What we will say - this rum-finished rye is Inconceivably balanced.

“I was hesitant with this one due to the age. But ended up ordering more bottles. Very complex for a 4 year, and it didn’t have any youth roughness. Lot of peach/apricot on the front with caramel and spice.”

The next bottle to superhero is……
Batman: Our 8-year Wisconsin Straight Bourbon finished in J. Henry barrel #838—Road’s End.

This bottle is dark, brooding, complex - like the Dark Knight himself, this bourbon doesn’t reveal everything at first sip. Sweet cream and doughy layered empanada give way to maple syrup, light mint, and faint hints of smoke. Oh and the rich oak? It lingers. There’s a complexity here you can’t quite figure out—and that’s exactly the point.

At 121 proof, it’s bold without apology. No flashy cape needed—just pure craftsmanship and depth. This is a bourbon for the discerning collector. 🦇

The 10-year Yahara Bay Rye finished in a Cabernet Sauvignon cask as IRON MAN.
This bottle is sophisticated, sophisticated, sophisticated—and expensive, bold, premium. A result of 10 years of work. So clearly, Iron Man fits. And like Iron Man, it can be a bit polarizing too. The grape notes are either a hit or miss for folks, and we’re ok with that.
