Thomas Farms A hobby farm peddling raw milk, raw milk products & free range chicken eggs. We’re happy you’re here! We are Taylor and Catie Thomas. Thank you for joining us!

On nine acres outside of Avoca, Iowa we raise chickens, ducks, fruits, vegetables, and offer some value added products such as dried egg noodles and baked goods. We have big plans for expansion in the coming years and can't wait to see where this exciting adventure takes us!!

Woo there are a whole lotta options this week!

Muffin flavors are banana chocolate chip with a nutty crumble & lemon blueberry with a lemon crumble! 🍋

These haven’t been around in a while, but I kinda miss making them: classic cinnamon rolls with a maple frosting! 🍁 (Because cream cheese frosting isn’t cottage food law legal)

Other goodies are dairy, eggs & radishes (limited radishes).

Pick up options for the week are:
Tuesday:
-Atlantic 12pm
-Council Bluffs 3:45pm
Thursday:
-Avoca 3:15pm
-Oakland 4pm
-Harlan 5pm
Sunday:
-Avoca 11:15am
-Harlan 12pm

Or on farm pick up Tuesday through Friday by appointment!

💫new cuties!💫

Look who we picked up today! The kids & I went on a little road trip to Malvern this morning to pick up 36 of these little cuties. (side note-I’ve never been and it’s beautiful over there!)

A friend is taking ten of them because I truly do not need 36 of these girls! 🤣 that’s just how many there were and the price was right.

We try to kind of do a mix of production birds and ‘fun’ ones & we add about 25 birds every year to the flock to keep the egg numbers about the same. This year was a production year so these are ISA browns. They’re a docile, hardy breed that lays large brown eggs and a lot of them! After my great egg shortage of winter 2025, I needed to beef up the production side of the flock. So here we are!

If you’re in the market for free range eggs, I have plenty right now! And hopefully these girls will get us though the winter in eggs, too! ☺️

P.S. this was their transport pen. They’re happily tucked into their new home with fluffy bedding & food and water!

💫Memorial Day💫

My family is not a military family, so I often find myself not knowing what to say on days that are for military families. But, I know for many, Memorial Day isn’t ‘happy’, so I’ve made a point to not say that.

Today, and every day, we are honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can continue to enjoy our freedoms & continue to advocate for them in other ways. If you’re hurting today, we are holding space for you. Your grief echoes through generations & we are sending love, peace & healing to your heart.

Happy Memorial Day! I forgot to post this last night 😅

Below is the extras menu for the week! Some crowd favorites for muffin flavors & free range eggs! I didn’t bake last week, because I wanted to protect my time in Kimber’s transition back into being a member of the milk strain. If you were around for her last calving you may remember she had a rough time. But I’m happy to report she’s doing great!

Pick up options are:
Tuesday
-Atlantic 12pm
-Council Bluffs 3:45pm
Thursday
-Avoca 315
-Oakland 4pm
-Harlan 5pm
On farm pick up by appointment Wednesday-Friday.

So the day before Kimber calved we had a family birthday party to go to and I was worried about being gone so Taylor put up trail cameras on Kimber to keep an eye on her while we weren’t home. Of course everything was fine and I’m just a worry wart but…

They were still up the next day when she did calve and he sent me this picture of me STRUGGLING with this 85 pound calf 🤣 It was time to milk Kimber and the best way to get them anywhere is to follow the baby, and to get the baby anywhere it’s easiest to just carry them…but maybe I’ll use the wagon next time lol.

Another cute thing about this is my oldest is right out of the frame holding the fence open for us to walk through! She stayed home while tay did milk pick ups and was the biggest little helper for Kimber’s first milking! 🥰

So anyways, enjoy this picture of me fighting for my life 🤣

💫guess who had a babyyyy!💫

Kimber had a healthy, vigorous, big bull calf this morning!!

She had no ligaments last night, so I’d been checking every 2 hours overnight. At 8 this morning she was in early labor and by 945 baby was here! She did the whole thing like a pro, I was just there for emotional support lol.

She got milked, got her calcium bolus, drank 10 gallons of molasses water, was palpated & then got a big hay snack & a big nap! Baby got a belly full of colostrum & his umbilical chord dipped.

Both are doing really well, and I’m soooooo thankful we weren’t having a baby in a storm! 😅

If you were a Sunday customer who was surprised to see Taylor and pick up today, I’m sorry I didn’t have time to message everyone! I just kind of sent him out the door & he did great! He made a comment that everyone is so kind at pick up, and I agree! We really have the greatest group of customers! 🖤

Baby needs a name still! He’s a jersey/ red angus cross. So far I have waffles on my list, and my kids want to call him haystack! 🤣 I’m hoping to find a different name we all like! Feel free to give name suggestions!
