Happy Indigenous People's Day Pot Pie Nation, or/and Happy Columbus Day for those who observe.
Saturday was a spectacular day, the weather was perfect and the pie sales were epic, Sunday with its tropical storm was less epic. Which reminds this old chef that as we move closer to the inclement weather season there will be fewer and fewer opportunities for Pot Pie Nationals to pick up their pies, so let me explain how you can get them any time of the week and anywhere you live. Hello Pot Pie Nation,
I purchased some beautiful butternut squash from Shashonah of the Comunitas Farm at the Fells Point Farm on Sunday. I have big plans to make a tagine from the squash with dried apricots, smoky cumin, lots of garlic, ginger, turmeric and cinnamon. If you are curious, Tagine is actually the conical shaped clay pot in which the North African Berbers prepared the stew over charcoal fires in the Moroccan desert - I will be making mine in my steel kitchen in Baltimore but Im certain will be just as delicious. Look for it on the menus at this weekend's farmer's market.

Happy Tuesday Pot Pie Nation,
I baked the first batch of the Turkey Thanksgiving Shepherds Pies last week and of course sold out of them at the weekend markets. So many of PPN are passionate about their favorite pie varieties. I have witnessed torrid conversations between customers debating which pie is better; cream of crab or chicken tikka or bourguignon, but I believe the Turkey Thanksgiving faction, are the most obsessed. I share their obsession.
The pie has slow roasted turkey, cornbread stuffing, delicious gravy and is topped with mashed potatoes.
