Need a soft landing for an older pony, not suited to a lesson program. Offered for free care lease with option to adopt after 6 months if desired.

Phoenix was one of our rescues from auction last year. He is of unknown age but definitely over 20, unknown background, and unknown breed. About 12 hands tall. Despite his age, he is a forward pony! Will w/t/c and jump small cross rails and verticals. Will trail ride in groups, cross water, etc, but prefers to be in the front and may jog for a bit.

Intermediate rider not afraid of speed is highly recommended if riding independently. He will however chill down if on a leadline for the very young ones. He is not spooky but he is strong and he is forward. He has been in my program for a while, gone to western speed games fun shows, and to trail rides so he trailer loads with minor hesitation if anything. He is barefoot but does require grain, not an air fern. No other maintenance. Lived with mares and geldings, middle bossy level.

This is not a patient pony. He does not like to stand (unless he gets to graze), he fidgets when tacking up, can be buddy sour and door sour, and will try to root the reins without a grazing rein to stop him. However, he's too old to buck, bolt, or rear, so in that regard he's safer than some ponies I've met!

Please message me if you'd like to meet him, he needs to find a new home by July 15.

A crew braved the terrible weather on Saturday to do an eventing trial at Fair Hill. Although the footing was soup and we were all at least a little soggy, it was all smiles all around at the end!

Another busy but amazing day! Ashleigh took a crew to the inaugural 4-H paperchase at the Baltimore County Ag Center and had fun introducing some riders to the joys of those events. All the horses seem pretty excited to be out and about, it took a while to get them settled, but everyone had a great time.

A second crew went to Paddock Place for April's show and brought home all the ribbons! Champions galore! I'm so proud of everything they're accomplishing, and so grateful to the families who take care of each other when I can't be there.

Then we had our first Adult Swim (18+ year old riders only) and had a good laugh with friends while playing with drill team patterns and knocking off some of the winter rust! Watch the video for all they accomplished in just an hour. I think these are going to be a fun activity this summer.

It's event season again! We have a lot of people interested in going places with us this year so a couple reminders before we really kick things off.

1. Event attendance is first come, first served. We only have a limited number of trailer spaces to get to events off site so we must plan our attendance carefully. With certain events (like paperchases) we also wish to encourage everyone who wants to experience one to have that opportunity, so some spaces may be reserved.

2. Our fee schedules have changed. For anyone borrowing an SRT horse, there is a $25 show lease fee. For any event supervised by a trainer, there will be a $30 coaching fee. Plus all fees due to the host farm (varies depending on event)

3. All events are posted on our TimeTree calendar for easy access! Please see the link below. Instructors are happy to answer questions about what kind of event your student might be eligible for in case you are uncertain.

The crew knocked out two shows today and I am so proud! I took a crew to a Western Schooling Show and watched everyone make some serious personal best moments. Addie got her gallop on with Socks during the speed games, Ethan rocked a full class list and a tough pattern class, and Kelsey got Willow through her first flat classes and then turned in some speed times that rivaled the Open division competition. Linda stayed competitive in the Open classes in some unfamiliar company. I wish I had some pictures of this crew (but I'm terrible at remembering that during the time)!

Boarders took a second crew to Paddock Place and never have I ever wished I could be in two places so badly. All the youngsters came home with grand champions in a division! And stepped up into their next competitive level despite some nerves. Addyson, Imani, Logan, you guys did great, awesome job minions! Melissa rode through some tough green horse moments with dignity and gained some valuable mileage for her horse.

Things don't always go smoothly, even today had rough moments for some people. But I am so proud of you all! (Send me pictures and I'll add them in! Current ones stolen from FB😁)

We had an amazing jump building and painting day! A huge thank you to all the volunteers, it was a big effort and you guys knocked out a long list of wishes better than I ever could have hoped! Five new cross country jumps, at least six complete pairs of matching poles and standards. Loved everyone's creativity. Here are some samples of all the accomplishments from day.

Wheel Decide

We’ve got a new idea coming through!

A lot of our students have been expressing interest in volunteering around the farm (and a lot of our adults want things for their kids to do!) and we can always use the help. Non-horse people and adults are also welcome. So, today we are introducing the Farm Volunteer Competition!

Each person wishing to volunteer will be randomly sorted into a House team. To find your House, please visit the site below for our picking wheel, spin the wheel by clicking the center, and please only spin once! A list of tasks will be posted in the arena for volunteers to choose from, each task is awarded points based on the level of effort required. These will include things like de-weeding fence lines, sweeping the feed room or aisles in the barn, removing manure from run in shed, etc. Tasks can be completed individually or as groups, points will be awarded to the team member(s) once photos of the task completion are sent to Ashleigh.

Points will be tallied up at the end of each month and the House team with the highest number will be treated to a surprise reward (ice cream or pizza party, prizes, etc). If you or your child would like to join, spin the wheel, tell Ashleigh which team you landed on, and first competition begins March 1!

Can't decide? Wheel Decide for you! Set your own custom choices and then spin the wheel to make the random decision (lunch, movie, anything!)

SRT family and friends, we will be attending the Horse World Expo in Harrisburg PA on Friday March 4 and on Saturday March 5.

Those with the younger riders, on the schedule for Saturday is mounted pony gaming, great fun for all ages to watch! Not all clinics are geared for the youngsters but that day seems to have plenty to watch.

Never been before? I'll be happy to answer questions or you can follow me around for a while until you feel comfortable. Limited carpooling also available for my teens if parents don't want to be roped into this all day.

Wanted to do a little before and after comparison of our oldest rescue to date. Phoenix was advertised as 15years old by the auction; our dentist estimated from his teeth that that was at least ten years short of the truth.

For an older guy, he still has a heck of a bit of spunkiness though! Watching some interactions in the field lately, I'm inclined to believe he has pushed the much younger Socks out of the top position.

Topaz has also made great strides, I just have to get similar photos for him next!

12/28/2021

Holding some mini-clinics this Saturday Jan 1 in lieu of lessons!

Tentative schedule:
10-11:15- Identifying trot diagonals and canter leads

Great practice for parents helping their kids learn to change to the correct diagonal or canter lead. Train your eye to see the timing of a diagonal with and without a rider. Learn the proper foot pattern than makes a correct lead and then practice identifying correct or incorrect sequences in real time through videos and horses in the arena.

11:30-12:45 Using ground poles and jump chutes

Excellent resource for any rider who uses ground poles, cavallettis, or does jumping. Practice setting up poles spaced for trot and canter for horse or pony. Learn to count strides between jumps for the perfect distances to take off. Set up your own gymnastic jump set. Then learn about what makes good jumping form for a horse as we send horses through our jump chute.

Lunch Break

1:15-2:15 Jump chute contest

Fun for all ages to watch. Bet on which horse or pony will have the highest jump while learning about counting canter strides between jumps and what makes for correct jumping form in a horse.

2:30-3:15 Pressure and release- trailer loading training (or tips for training a horse in general!)

Join us to learn a few techniques to help load a horse who has difficulty loading up. We will have a real time demonstration with our horses who still have minor issues to demonstrate how to handle these behaviors before things get out of hand

Please message or text Ashleigh to sign up for any or all of these clinics. $20/session. Open to the public.

We can also repeat a session if it has a lot of interest to accommodate larger groups.

Want to participate in the jump chute with your horse, or help handle some of the participants? We'd be happy to have you join in! Horses must be reasonably well behaved and easy to catch. We'll teach you what to do.

12/22/2021

Last minute announcement, we will be closed Dec 23 for the holiday, I hope everyone on the schedule received the cancellation email and I am sorry for the short notice!

12/16/2021

Reminder, no lessons from 4pm onward today 12/16! Hopefully everyone received the Schedulicity cancellation email, sorry for the late notice if not!

The crew went to Paddock Place yesterday for the first of the Winter Show Series they host. Some things will just never go according to plan (pony bathroom breaks right in front of the judge, a mistake on course, equine anxiety) but this team is pretty skilled at trying to rally up and make comebacks. And many of these horses, the riders have developed themselves over time so the successes are even more meaningful for them. As ever, they make me proud!

11/29/2021

The first of the winter show series we attend is coming up this Saturday. Please let me know if your rider would like to join! Open to Lead-line riders, beginners, all the way up to higher level jumpers. $15 per class with $10 office fee, plus coaching and hauling fees. Tucker and Socks are as yet unclaimed for classes for any kids!

It was a long, cold day but thanks in enormous part to Peter and Billy, we made several large projects around the farm happen!

The first and most exciting for everyone, I think, is the updated footing in the indoor. The kids smiles in the last photo say it all. We also managed to fix a hole that had developed in the racetrack and regrade several areas inside the pastures for better safety.

I would also like to put out a thank you to those who have chipped in today with helping with the other chores while I was tied up with my projects. Feeding horses, doing blankets, preparing for the trail challenge tomorrow, and bringing equipment back into the arena after all was finished. Elan, Fleta, Linda, Kerri, Kristin and Scott, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the assistance today!

The crew had a fun final speed game show at Norris Sporthorses last night. We all really enjoy going and I love our team atmosphere.

Phoenix and Topaz made their show debuts last night and kept their riders in the ribbons each time! These two have come such a long way from their poor times at the auction. Phoenix was originally just along for schooling to see how he would handle the atmosphere but when he fell asleep standing at the rail, I figured he was safe to try a few classes! Then his girl just didn't want to give him up for her original horse. He even cantered her home a few times of his own volition!

Topaz is a wiggly green bean but he handled everything much the same as he does at home so while he can be a little energetic, he never pulls any bad behaviors. The barrels were definitely a bit sketchy for him in the beginning but he got over it eventually.

Overall, a very successful night.
