Today was a beautiful day so I walked around the orchard to see how things are coming along. All the trees had buds and some had very small leaves that are start to emerge. I also grafted two Williams Pride apple trees since I had some left over root stock and to check the viability of the scion wood since it’s 2 years old but the cambium layer is still green. Lastly the tulips have emerged and we will hopefully have a better harvest compared to what we had last year.

Reed's Farm was my Uncle Billy’s family farm. I spent many hours there growing up. Once I graduated high school and joined the Coast Guard I would always make time to go and visit when I was home on leave. Unfortunately Uncle Bill passed away when I was stationed in Kodiak, AK and soon after that I was told the farm was going to be sold. I was saddened by that because I felt that the farm and land still had so much to give. I was also afraid that it was going to turn into a bunch of houses. But a group of amazing people stepped in giving it a new purpose and kept the farm alive.

The tulip bulbs have been put in their bed for the winter. Looking forward to see them bloom in the spring. A little late posting this, It only happened about two weeks ago.

We will continue to pick apples and put them out as long as we have them. Willie the cat will oversee our work.

Finally after 7 years of rehabilitating and strengthening our Benton Red apple trees, which are over 200 years old, we have started getting healthy looking apples. Once we clean and sort the apples we will bag them for sale on our little farm stand. Thank you to everyone who has been following our hard work and progress. In the next few days people will be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Last weekend we picked a bunch of bruised Benton Red apples and pressed cider. We shared with family, neighbors and of course have drank our fair share. Hopefully some day we will be able to make enough cider to start selling it.
