We are launching TOMORROW at the Mountaintown Hop Fest in Fort Payne 🍻 Rome City Brewing was founded by native Alabamians Jay Shell and Trent Prault in Rome, GA. Their love of craft beer led to a hobby in beer making. Both had daughters who played a little softball, bringing the two guys together as parents yelling at umpires. A conversation over a few beers led to the idea of starting Rome’s first brewery. The initial plan was to learn to brew beer on an industrial level, and then begin brewing. Jay had different plans. Within a week, it was in the paper, and they were off to the races. Jay didn’t want Trent to sober up and have time to get cold feet! They’ve been brewing craft beer ever since.! Mountain town Hop Fest is Saturday October 12th from 2 – 6pm at the Rotary Pavilion in Fort Payne and will feature craft breweries from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. Rome City will be introducing their brand with their Short Hot Blonde and Clocktower IPA. Tickets are available for $40 at the door. The tradition of Oktoberfest began in 1810 to celebrate the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The citizens were invited to join the festivities which were held over five days on the fields in front of the city gates. Horse races in the presence of the royal family marked the close of the event. The decision to repeat the horse races in subsequent years gave rise to the tradition of Oktoberfest. An agricultural show was added to the horse races in 1811. The horse races are no longer held but the agricultural show is still held every three years during Oktoberfest. Over the years more attractions have been added. In 1818, a carousel and swings were introduced and beer booths were added to quench visitors’ thirst. In 1896 beer stands were replaced by beer tents and halls and the range of carousels offered started to increase rapidly. Today, the Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest festival in the world. There are now rollercoasters in addition to the carousels and other events for attendees of all ages. In 2010, it celebrated it’s 200th anniversary, only Wars and cholera have interrupted the yearly celebration. This year we celebrate the 186th Oktoberfest. PROST!
