✨ Celebrating Bernadette Bascom ✨
We're stepping into the spotlight this month to celebrate longtime Bothell resident, music icon, vocal coach and Emmy Award winner Bernadette Bascom.
From performing alongside legends like Frankie Valli, Al Green, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder, to her lifelong commitment to help young people find confidence and their voice through music, her impact reaches far beyond the stage.
Her connection to Anderson School is especially meaningful. This historic school was once home to Bothell's Alternative high school, the Second Academy for Success (SAS). It was here that Jim Geiszler introduced Blues and connected with Bernadette. Her passion for music and mentoring young people soon grew into the Music Project where hundreds of students developed confidence, life skills and sense of belonging through music.
That eventually grew into SPEAK - Music as Language, allowing her to bring the power of music to more young people beyond the greater Seattle area.
We're honored to celebrate Bernadette Bascom Day, right here at Anderson School and recognize the incredible legacy she helped create in our community 💛. If you noticed in the painting the word "Praise" is spelled out in mosaic style letters, which refers to her Sunday Gospel Choir.
