“The Grand European Wine Wednesday Tasting Tour: From the Danube to the Douro”

For the next 3 months, we’ll be “traveling” through the great wine regions of Europe.

See tomorrow’s lineup below! We hope to see you Weds., May 6, 5-7pm!

Boulder Wine Merchant is thrilled to introduce a fresh new focus for our Wine Wednesday tastings — an immersive, three-month journey through some of Europe’s most compelling wine regions.

Each month, we’ll spotlight a different country, diving deep into its terroir, traditions, and top producers — offering a true sense of place in every glass.

We begin in Austria, where the Danube River carves through a landscape of dramatic vineyards and historic villages. Expect precision and purity — from the crystalline energy of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling to the soulful reds of Burgenland and the alpine freshness of Styria. These are wines of tension, elegance, and quiet power.

In June, we travel to Germany, home to some of the world’s most age-worthy and expressive wines. From the steep, slate-laced vineyards of the Mosel to the structured, dry styles of the Rheingau and beyond, German wines balance brilliance and depth with unmatched finesse.

We’ll conclude in Portugal, one of the most dynamic and underappreciated wine cultures in the world. Beyond Port, discover a thrilling range of indigenous varietals, coastal freshness, and bold, sun-drenched reds from regions like the Douro, Dão, and Vinho Verde — wines that overdeliver in both character and value.

Join us each Wednesday from 5-7pm as we explore these remarkable regions — tasting, learning, and discovering something new along the way.

We kick things off this Wednesday, May 6, 5-7pm, with a focused tasting of four wines from Austria’s Danube region.

Come travel with us — no passport required.

Come raise a glass to warmer days, Alpine breezes, and the delicious art of Northern Italy!

Wine Wednesday | Contratto Aperitivo & Sparkling Wines | Spring in a Glass
April 23 | 5:00–7:00 pm | Boulder Wine Merchant

Spring has officially tapped us on the shoulder, and we’re answering with bubbles, bitters, and a little Northern Italian glamour.

Join us for a special Wine Wednesday tasting featuring the celebrated house of Contratto, one of Italy’s historic names in sparkling wine and aperitivo culture. We’ll be pouring the newly released Contrattino Organic Aperitivo, along with its beautifully crafted non-alcoholic version, plus two sparkling wines from Contratto to complete the experience.

Now guided by the vision of Giorgio Rivetti, Contratto has entered a remarkable new era. Rivetti is widely admired for transforming estates in Piedmont and Tuscany through uncompromising quality and bold imagination. With Contratto, that same energy extends beyond wine into world-class sparkling wines, vermouths, and aperitivi rooted in tradition but tuned for today’s palate.

The new Contrattino Organic Aperitivo is bright, herbaceous, citrus-laced, and wonderfully balanced, equally suited for a spritz, over ice, or simply admired in the glass. Its non-alcoholic counterpart delivers the same botanical charm and bittersweet sophistication, proving that flavor never needs permission from alcohol.

We’re also delighted to welcome our good friend Erin Lewis, co-owner of Giuliana Imports, who will be here to pour the lineup, share stories behind the bottles, and visit with guests throughout the evening.

If spring had a passport stamp, it might look like this tasting.
