Summer is settling in.

There are seasons on a farm when everything feels busy and full.

There are also seasons when you're preparing for what's next.

This feels like one of those weeks.

Have you met Adelle?

Adelle started life as a house pig.

Now she's living her best life in the pasture.

These days she's sharing space with her two best friends:

Truman and Darla.

Some days I think she's convinced she's running the place.

One thing we've learned over the years:

The people who always have chicken available aren't necessarily the people who buy the most.

They're the people who plan ahead.

Our poultry subscribers reserve their birds before the season even begins.

Custom bulk customers reserve processing dates and packaging ahead of time.

If local food is important to your family, planning ahead matters.

That's how small farms work.

And honestly, that's part of what makes local food special.

One of the meals we've been making at home this week is a Honey Mustard Chicken Tater Tot Bowl.

Nothing fancy.

Crispy tater tots.
Chicken.
A simple honey mustard sauce.
Whatever vegetables need used up.

That's the kind of meal I love.

Not because it's impressive.

Because it gets supper on the table.

The best meals aren't always the ones you plan.

They're often the ones you build from what you already have.

This past weekend reminded me exactly why we started offering workshops at Revercomb Farms.

Our Summer Kitchen class wasn't really about sauces.

It was about confidence.

Together, we made several simple summer-inspired creations, sampled them around the table, shared ideas, and packed jars to take home and "test drive" with our families.

My favorite part wasn't the food.

It was hearing people realize that supper doesn't have to be complicated.

A few simple ingredients. A simple framework. A little imagination.

That's often enough.

This week was hot.

The kind of hot where chores get started earlier, water bottles go everywhere with you, and even the chickens spend more time looking for shade than bugs.

By the end of the week, everyone seemed to be moving just a little slower.

As I sit here on Sunday evening, I'm reminded that every season has its own pace.

Spring asks us to plant.
Summer asks us to tend.
Fall asks us to harvest.
Winter asks us to rest.

Sometimes we forget that people need those rhythms, too.

So tonight, I'm grateful for a slower evening, a simple supper, and a chance to prepare for another week ahead.

The animals are fed.
The store is stocked.
The garden is growing.
The laundry can wait until tomorrow.

That's enough.

Here's to cooler evenings, family suppers, and another week of feeding our families well.

Because feeding your family real food shouldn't be complicated—it should be meaningful.
