We’ve been busy on the farm lately. New calves have been born, we hatched 2 turkeys, momma duck is sitting on about 20 eggs, more duck eggs in the incubator and getting ready for summer and gardening.

Momma duck started sitting on of nest of 30ish eggs last week. This morning, she had kicked out 9. These 9 were either not fertilized or they had the ring of death. It’s truly amazing what animals know and do. She still has plenty underneath her.

Sometimes she even has a friend helping her.

You might remember we bought some black angus heifers. They were due middle of May. I guess it’s the middle of May because we brought this one into the world this morning. Mom is very high strung and had us climbing fences and gates. I hope the rest are calmer because I like the disposition of our Murray Grey way better.

Eggs are being produced like crazy this spring and I cannot keep up. Between the ducks and chickens, we are getting roughly 28 dozen a week. That being said price has been dropped to move eggs quicker with this spring flush. ✌️a dozen.

The cooler will be filled each morning starting Monday (4/20) and placed at the end of our driveway. I am only going to fill with chicken eggs to begin with.

Call ducks have hit lock down. I believe both ducks have internally pipped and a safety hole has been made into their air hole. Now we wait 24 hours before pressing onward.

Call ducks are one of the hardest eggs to get to hatch.

🐄 13 calves have arrived so far
🦆 Ducks are set to hatch April 15 and I have 2 call duck eggs that I hope to have hatch this week. They are on day 23 and still alive.

Did you know chicks take 21 days to hatch, where ducks take 28 days.
