🚜 📻 🌻 Farm Talk Tuesday (even though its Wednesday😄): My five picks for a fall pot
Last week we talked about why “fall colors” and “plants that can handle fall weather” aren’t always the same thing. So what would I put together in a pot for fall in Joplin?
🌸 Pansies for colorful blooms
🍃 Swiss chard for colorful stems and leaves
🌿 Ornamental kale for texture
🌱 Thyme for a little fragrance
🌱 Sage for soft leaves and more fragrance
These plants all handle cooler weather better than summer favorites like zinnias, celosia, and basil. A light frost doesn’t have to mean your whole pot is finished. A hard freeze is another story, especially for plants whose roots are exposed to the cold in a container.
It’s the same reason frost matters so much at Copper Bee. Our zinnias, celosia, and marigolds may still be blooming beautifully the day before a frost, but they’re warm-season flowers. One cold night can bring their season to an end.
When you’re building a fall pot, choose plants that enjoy the same weather—then have fun choosing the colors and textures you love. 🍂
