J Candeed With an upbeat and evolving sound, he blends elements of the hill-country blues, traditional bluegrass and psychedelic groove using a mandola, kick and snare drum, opening up new regions and audiences to introduce this infections style of crossover music.
*The performance is free but any tips given to the musician are much appreciated. Help us support local artists!

🌊 PURE JIUJITSU x STEEL STRING 🌊

Join Pure JiuJitsu and Steel String on Saturday, Sept. 19th for an event centered around strength and community!

The afternoon will start at 2pm with a FREE self defense seminar at Pure JiuJitsu, Carrboro’s only jiu-jitsu academy. They focus on making high-level jiu jitsu training readily available to the most vulnerable, offering classes for the community and also classes that are specific to women and non-binary folks. Recommended attire: Workout clothes, like you would wear to the gym or to a yoga class. We recommend flip flops, since we’ll be barefoot on the mat. You will be up close and personal with your training partners! For everyone’s safety and comfort, please be prepared to remove any jewelry that could snag or poke, and avoid heavy makeup that could come off on other people’s clothes 👕

After the seminar, Steel String Brewery’s taproom in Downtown Carrboro (a 2 min walk from PJJ!) will be hosting a post-seminar social, gathering folks from the class and the community to raise funds for PJJ and their Women’s Self Defense Scholarship fund. This fund gives women and non-binary folks a chance to train in self defense and build their confidence without financial barriers 🙌

If you cannot make either of these events, please consider signing up for a class and/or making a donation to the fund via Venmo to -Katsaounis. 100% of your donations will go towards helping women & nonbinary people learn jiu jitsu.

And we’re capping off the month strong with Carrboro Music Fest on Sunday, September 27th!

Check out our stage on the patio and our neighbor’s in the lot directly behind the building, live music will go from 1pm-8pm ⏰

✌️LAGER DAZE RELEASE ✌️

1 week away from Lager Daze, which means another collab spotlight! We’re thrilled to work with our buddies from Bright Penny on a fun and fresh style of beer, a Thiolized Rice Lager 🍺

It sounds like the work of a mad scientist, but it’s actually way more chill and awesome 🧬 Our neighbors at Bright Penny are known for using the latest, boundary pushing hop products, so when we saw a new thiolized lager yeast, we knew it would be a great collab project!

Thiols are sulphur based-flavor compounds from the malt and hops that amp up beer flavor, and this specially made yeast does the same. So, we designed an easy drinking rice-lager that should have an especially fruity, white grape and passionfruit forward hop character, perfect for crushing at Lager Daze 🐟

September is here and we’ve got all kinds of fun lined up for our Carrboro Taproom and Pluck Farm all month long!

We have a few new events like speed puzzling 🧩 and fly fish tying 🎣 at the taproom, as well as the return of Saturday live music at the farm

We’ve got two really stellar events to spotlight:

9/12 🍻 LAGER DAZE 🍻
An all day celebration of lagers, jam bands and tie dye at Pluck Farm!

9/27 🎶 CARRBORO MUSIC FEST🎶
A massive celebration of all music local and live, taking place all over downtown. We’ll have a stage on our patio and our neighbors will have one in the gravel lot. It’s gonna be a rocking time 🤘
