The Fall garden has not been easy this year, however, with the 70+ years of experience…. so far so good. There has been no rain in many weeks, and the late morning and early afternoon temperatures have been unusually warm 🥵!
A second thinning of turnip greens have occurred, along with several harvest of extended Summer crops😋! Here are several scenes taken from the Fall garden this afternoon.

After waiting for the 2 to 4 inches of rain that was predicted for this weekend ….which never happened …..it was concluded that the deer plots were going to have to be planted now regardless! The dust bowl will not be fun, but it is beginning to get late in the planting season🤔.
A trip was made to Hutto’s Home and Garden Center this morning for deer food plot supplies …. Of course a few flowers were purchased also .🌼

Photos of the Fall garden taken early this morning.🤔🤔 With the bright sun and the 90 degree heat, things are not looking so great.
A friend and I were talking this morning about transplanting. H informed me of today’s forecast which I had not heard.. From the weather prediction earlier in the week, rain was expected today!
All that can be done, is to keep using the Southwestern Dossville city water until God sends us natural water 💦 from clouds above!
True gardeners never give up!

Just as I was planning to plant my Fall garden, it started to rain! Showers of blessing! I have everything ready now, so I should be ready to plant in the morning!👏🏾

Today, I made my semi annual visit to Hutto’s Home and Garden Center……………Plant variety means everything to real gardeners, and they have a great selection to choose from!!!! I stocked up on all of my favorite varieties of seed for the Fall and early Spring garden….
I also purchased a few broccoli and cabbage plants…Hutto’s has very knowledgeable personnel to answer any question that you might have…..Instead of a tray that is just named broccoli, you actually know what variety that you are purchasing. The family business has been in existence for three generations. I highly recommend Hutto’s on Ellis Avenue in Jackson, Mississippi. 🌱🫚🪻🪴

My wife made this beautiful jelly with some scuppernongs and a few wild muscadines that I picked! She says that I am too slow as far as canning goes, so get out of the way!………. I can live with that!🤔

Castor bean plant
The number three (3), can mean that it is a legume like string beans, clovers, and so on ; or it can mean poison - like poison ivy. All parts of the Castor bean are poisonous .. Old timers believe that the roots growing in the soil deterred moles from their garden .. Research has proven that this is not entirely true, but I plan to make a castor oil spray from the seed to spray on the mole runs. This is said to be effective!……… Traps are sometimes effective during wet weather, but are a hit or miss situation. I only caught four (4) this year with my traps, and still have moles.
