3 castor bean pods were found in the freezer that had been saved from a few years ago. Each pod has 3 seed, therefore I was able to plant 9 seed.
Each part of a castor bean plant is poisonous.
The leaves, stalk, beans and even the roots are poisonous if eaten…… People have planted a few in their gardens for years to deter moles.

This small garden has been a garden site for at least 150 years. My great Uncle Glen Cullen used it for one before my Father owned it! The site chosen for a garden long ago was a perfect site that contained a well drained sandy loam soil.
Some topsoil erosion has occurred on the sloping part over the years, so the size has been greatly reduced.
Hot, windy, dry weather conditions do not lend themselves for growing cool season crops. Therefore the decision was made this morning to pull all of the spinach and freeze it. Expected yield is expected to be around 3 pint bags.
I managed to get the spinach pulled, and my wife washed it. I then received my orders to get out of the kitchen and out of her way. She exclaimed that she had been doing this for 42 years now, and she knew what she was doing.
Getting out of the way is what I do best!

Thinned some garden lettuce, green onions, and radishes for a lunch salad today. Nothing beats the taste of lettuce harvested direct from the garden…. My favorite variety is Great Lakes. It will even head up, if planted early enough!

When corn has just begun the emergence stage, crows 🐦‍⬛ will literally destroy a small patch in the garden!!! Immediate action has to be taken!
