First corn in the ground on 5/15. Seemed to go in nice. Now we just hope the rest of the season goes well!

1st cut alfalfa 2026 is in the books. Very nice , dry haylage to fill the bottom of the silo. Got the silo half full to start the year, and seems to be very good quality. Always nice to start off the hay season with a smooth first cutting.

I had some people asking about the swarm capture last night. We got the bees re-homed in our woods and they seem to be settling in. We found some pruning shears and just chopped the whole end of the branch off and allowed the bees to just fall into our bee box. We ratchet strapped a bottom and top to the box and drove the 20 minutes home to our woods. We then gave the box a proper base and lid, removed the branch, and added a few frames (rectangular pieces that serve as a foundation for the bees to build honeycomb.) We will continue to monitor the bees and feed them some sugar water to give them a good start. It was a lot of bees and seems like it will be a good, healthy hive. I think my brother and I made it through with only 1 sting a piece. I'd call that a success!

A little side quest tonight. We've kept some bees in the past but never had a ton of luck. We'll give it a go again this year.
