Thoughtfully roasted coffee from our Charlottesville roastery—proudly serving Charlottesville, Richmond, and Williamsburg.

Our journey started with a vision, a little bit of grit — and a whole lot of coffee. Since opening our first coffee shop near the University of Virginia in 2008, we’ve grown to six locations in Central Virginia, including five in the Charlottesville area and one in Richmond. We have navigated plenty of twists and turns along the way, but are driven ahead knowing that our coffee provides fuel for others blazing their own paths. As a roaster we search the world over to establish relationships with great farmers cultivating great coffees, and we roast them with craft and care — believing that only the best cup is good enough for the journey ahead.

Same great location, coffee, and wine, but now with a new name: say hello to Grit Coffee at The Wool Factory. Our sister shop has been run by our Grit team for a while now, so we're making it official.

Come by for your favorite coffee, a glass of Virginia wine, and everything the Wool Factory property and adjoining trail system have to offer — just a mile from Downtown C-ville.

The next stop on Travis’s Costa Rica trip was Cerro San Luis Micromill, where he spent the day with the Delgado family in the mountains above Grecia.

While exploring the farm, tasting coffee cherries straight from the trees, and learning more about their approach to processing, Travis was reminded of how much of a coffee’s character is shaped long before it reaches the roaster.

Some of the most memorable moments came over lunch, where conversations about family, farming, and the future of coffee bridged the gap between languages. Coffee has a way of bringing people together, and this visit was a great reminder that the relationships behind the coffee are just as important as the cup itself.

We’re excited to continue building our relationship with the Delgado family and sharing more of their coffees with the Grit Coffee community. San Luis Micromill is currently pouring as a limited-edition cold brew on our taps.
