HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
This store has always been a family business starting with E. Eliot Mayhew’s original store in 1875.
The store as we know it today is a result of generations of families working as the stewards of this special place and the layers that each family has contributed.
Today we’re saying a special thank you to the dads that have been a part of the store for the last forty years.
Joel Glickman: 2011 to present
Bill Rossi: 2004 to 2011. Bill & Stephanie Rossi took over the store in 2004 with the intent of keeping the store the same right down to the pizza dough recipe.
Frank LoRusso - My late father who bought the store together with the Rossi’s from Primo Lombardi in 2004. While my dad was never involved in the store operations, he was the one making many repairs, building new fixtures, repairing rocking chairs & porch boards, and along with my mom, growing the vegetables we sold for many years.
Primo Lombardi - 1986 to 2004. The late Primo Lombardi and his wife Mary Lombardi brought the heart and soul we all have come to love by expanding the building and most importantly….. bringing pizza to the store.
Let’s not forget Hugh Taylor and his wife Jeanne who ran the store in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Hugh & Jeanne focused on community and built the porch we all enjoy today!
These dads have a few things in common, they are hard working, care deeply about their family, and have all helped keep the doors of the Chilmark General Store open for the last forty years!
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!
