Chilmark General Store The story of a community store in Chilmark began the early 1900’s and was known as E. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to go or to eat on our porch daily.

Eliot Mayhew’s store before the site of the current Chilmark Store as we know it today existed. “The people of Chilmark used to gather at a store owned and operated by E. Elliot Mayhew who had a sign on his building which proclaimed that he was the dealer of almost anything”

In the spirit of E. Eliot Mayhew, Chilmark General Store continues to be a community store for the 21st century, a cross be

tween a community market, pizzeria/deli, and central gathering place for locals and travelers. The landmark porch is a true local hub where friends meet for coffee, and celebrities and local workers alike break for lunch. Children come for snacks afterschool, cyclists stop to refuel on their way to the cliffs, laid back business deals are made over coffee, and travelers stop by to pick up a few necessities and try the pizza. We pride ourselves on being a community market where you can shop for everyday basics, fresh local produce and products, and household necessities. Our coffee is organic, small batch roasted, and ground fresh daily. Our sandwiches are made with bread from PainD’Avignon bakery, and our famous Pizza is hand-tossed with and topped with carefully chosen ingredients such as fresh mozzarella, roasted mushrooms, and imported meat from Italy. Our goal is simple: To make our customer’s experience the best it can be. Located just down the road from Beetlebung corner we welcome you to stop by and refuel and relax on the porch.

We have so many local and special products that it’s not often we post about just one. Our newest offering from Strafford Organic Creamery deserves its own! We highly recommend trying this special ice cream.

Read their story below:

Strafford Organic Creamery is a one-farm, one-family dairy in central Vermont. We milk 70 Guernseys and market their amazing milk in glass bottles, and in super-premium ice cream. Certified organic in 1997 and bottling on our own since 2001, we are committed to sustainable agriculture and dairy without compromises.

We make our ice cream in small batches, one day each week. We wouldn’t dream of blending our cows’ cream with anything but the highest-quality organic ingredients. We separate fresh eggs by hand, handpick the mint, grind the coffee just before we brew it into the milk, and basically work our tails off to make the best ice cream imaginable.
