Everyone assumes pigs are the cheap animals to raise.
In reality?
They’re the most expensive mouths to feed on our farm.
Pigs eat a lot—and we choose to feed them an organic, non-GMO, soy-free ration. That alone puts them in a whole different category cost-wise. We absolutely supplement with kitchen scraps whenever we can, but let’s be honest… scraps barely make a dent when you’re feeding animals that can inhale a meal and immediately look at you like you forgot dessert.
One of our long-term goals is to grow a dedicated “pig garden”—think big, calorie-dense crops—to help offset the feed bill. But until then, every bag of feed adds up fast.
So when you see higher prices on local, organic pork (or any ethically raised meat), please know this:
your farmer isn’t price gouging.
You’re paying for:
• quality feed
• intentional sourcing
• animal health
• humane care
• and the reality of raising food the right way
Cheap meat always cuts corners somewhere. We just choose not to.
Supporting local farmers means supporting the true cost of food—and we’re grateful for every person who understands that 🐖🤍
