Everyone assumes pigs are the cheap animals to raise.

In reality?
They’re the most expensive mouths to feed on our farm.

Pigs eat a lot—and we choose to feed them an organic, non-GMO, soy-free ration. That alone puts them in a whole different category cost-wise. We absolutely supplement with kitchen scraps whenever we can, but let’s be honest… scraps barely make a dent when you’re feeding animals that can inhale a meal and immediately look at you like you forgot dessert.

One of our long-term goals is to grow a dedicated “pig garden”—think big, calorie-dense crops—to help offset the feed bill. But until then, every bag of feed adds up fast.

So when you see higher prices on local, organic pork (or any ethically raised meat), please know this:
your farmer isn’t price gouging.

You’re paying for:
• quality feed
• intentional sourcing
• animal health
• humane care
• and the reality of raising food the right way

Cheap meat always cuts corners somewhere. We just choose not to.

Supporting local farmers means supporting the true cost of food—and we’re grateful for every person who understands that 🐖🤍

Working smarter, not harder. But also… who needs firewood? 🪵 🙌🏻

Our Maggie has more real-life, hands-on farm skills at 7 years old than I did as a full-grown adult. 🐑🌾

She knows how to move animals, help with chores, problem-solve when something goes sideways, and jump in without being asked. She’s confident, capable, and completely unfazed by hard work or dirty hands.

Watching her grow up this way is the biggest reminder of why we chose this life. Responsibility, grit, compassion, and knowing how to care for living things—those lessons stick.

Honestly… this kid will be running the farm by herself by 12, and I’ll just be asking her what needs to be done. 💪🤍

Fun fact 🌱🐑
Grass-fed sheep are natural soil builders. As they graze, they trample plant matter and fertilize the ground with manure, which feeds soil microbes and helps grass regrow thicker and healthier. That means healthier pastures and more nutrient-dense meat—nature’s full circle at work.

The kids didn’t just get to see the animals — they got to learn their jobs. We talked about what regenerative farming really means, what these animals eat, how they live, and what they give back in return. Healthy soil, healthy animals, nourishing food, and a system that works with nature instead of against it.

There were curious questions, wide eyes, gentle hands, and so much respect being built in real time. These moments matter. When kids understand where their food comes from and how animals are cared for, it plants seeds that grow far beyond the classroom.

So grateful for the chance to share our farm, our values, and these sweet animals with the next generation 🌱
