Yesterday’s Reiki session with Martin started a little differently than usual because, for the first time, I witnessed his seizures firsthand.
I’ve known about the seizures Martin has been experiencing, but seeing them happen in front of me was an entirely different experience. Martin is a special needs bunny whose spine is slowly degenerating, causing pinched nerves that can lead to frightening and painful contortions. Watching it happen is incredibly difficult, especially knowing how uncomfortable and scary it must feel for him.
I’ve had the absolute honor of working with Martin for about five years now. During that time, Reiki has been one piece of his care, supporting him physically, emotionally, and energetically while helping him stay as comfortable, peaceful, and happy as possible.
One of the greatest gifts of this work is getting to know animals over the long term. To watch them change, adapt, age, and navigate their challenges, while being able to offer them a little more comfort along the way.
Reiki is not a replacement for veterinary care. It is a beautiful complement to the incredible veterinary team supporting Martin, especially Dr. Suzan Borders.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with these special buns and to be part of their lives for the long haul. Every animal deserves the chance to feel safe, loved, comfortable, and supported through every season of their life.
Martin, you are so incredibly loved.
