It’s finally peony season and we have peonies!

📣 Subscribers, check your emails for details on your pick ups starting next week!

We thought peonies were invincible but we quickly found out this year that early blooms and late frosts can take a crop out quickly.

It’s so easy to walk the rows of our plants see all that was lost, but still there is an abundance. And I couldn’t help but think how many times I do this in life. Focus only on what isn’t. On what didn’t happen. On what we don’t have. On what it could have been.

But all that does is cloud our minds from the blessings of what still is.

I hope these peonies in bloom, despite unfavorable conditions can remind you of all that still went right. All that you do have. And the abundance of blessing still surrounding you!

The frost may have taken some, but God has still given us more than enough!

Our first peony harvest of the season!

What we anticipated to be our most fruitful harvest to date, has quickly turned into maybe our worst.

With all those super warm March days, our peonies sprouted early and many of our plants experienced what is known as, “bud blast.” The buds started growing, then got hit with many days of frost, and stopped growing.

But it’s not a total loss! We still expect maybe half of our crop!

Once all of our peonies start blooming, we will fill all of our subscription orders before opening up general orders, but we are hopeful to still have many peony bouquets available to share!

I once was told by a lifelong farmer, “If you’re havin’ fun, you ain’t farming.” And honestly, this unpredictable, out of character weather this year has me believing it. But after five years of growing flowers, we’ve learned to just go with the flow and take whatever God gives us!

Here’s to hoping it’s still an over abundance of peonies!

Some of the seeds we started back in March made it out into the field last night! A sure sign that summer is on the way!

Salt + Light Meadows is FIVE today!!!

But Josh would like to be clear on the fact that this is the sixth growing season! 🤪

It honestly feels like we have been sharing our love of community + flowers forever, but the calendar says it’s just our fifth year!

I know each year in business is to get bigger + better and trust me, I’ve chased both in the past five years. But this year is the year of less.

Less pushing, less striving, less forcing. And more of being intentional and intimate with where we are and what we have.

I have always felt this need to grow and expand with the idea that if I wasn’t growing or doing more or building a building, I wasn’t succeeding. But after a really long year of health battle after health battle, I’ve felt the Lord drawing me close and bringing me back to the heart of this endeavor.

To grow flowers + gather people.

And it doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t have to come with an expensive venue. It doesn’t have to come with a shock + awe factor.

We host events that max out at 24 people and we do it all around 12 simple garden beds and a modest flower field all right here at our home.

It isn’t impressive or fancy or anything like the inspiration I’ve spent the past five years pinning.

But it’s what we have today and this is my year to steward it well. To get back to the heart of creating a space for you to catch a glimpse of Eden here on earth. To escape the noise + chaos of the world. To gather with your friends + family and simply be together.

Thank you so much for being here. Loving us, buying our flowers, and supporting our family. We aren’t going anywhere, we’re just focused on doing better with exactly who we are.

Just a husband and wife with a little girl tending to a micro flower farm on our family land. Serving you with fresh grown flowers + and the opportunity to experience it all for yourself!

We had the best time at our Mama + Me Pressed Flower Handprint workshops this weekend!

Earlier in the year I had surgery to remove a tumor in my knee and recovery hasn’t always been as easy as I’d like. Josh suggested maybe we just grow the flowers this year and skip the events but I am just stubborn and delusional enough to demand I could do it!

In God’s goodness, he has made it all possible! And it felt so good to have you all back here! From new faces to repeat visitors, we are just so grateful for your support of our farm and our family!

The vision just doesn’t make sense without inviting you all here to our home and I’m so thankful for restored health and the physical ability to welcome you here and share my love of fellowship + flowers!

We still have a few months to go until we get to our summer events but the flowers have already been started and we can’t wait to have you back in the sunshine!
