The hard days… we’ve been so blessed all these years to have never lost a calf. This morning was the first, it started when I noticed the heifers here at our house on alert, then I heard the mamas across the road sounding off. I was worried a calf had wiggled under the fence and was being called back by the herd. I went over on the wheeler to check things out. No calves out but the whole group was milling around by the East fence. Sadly when I got closer I saw the reason for their distress. Our sweet Johnny Walker Red was laying there not moving. Upon inspection I could find no injuries or causes of death. His poor mama Rowena was standing there just watching. These are the moments in farming you hope to never experience but inevitably will. Telling my Amelia that her cow lost her calf was a kick to the gut. Many tears have been shed already and I’m sure more will come. We thank God for allowing us the privilege of caring for these amazing animals and trust that He has a plan… just some days it’s a hard pill to swallow. 💔

A sure sign summer is right around the corner… moving all the cows and calves to summer pasture. Not sure who was more excited the cows or Bob and John, we have the best neighbors ❤️

Well! 10 days early Lady Rea decided it was go time, welcome to the world handsome man! Now to decide on a name, these two will be featured in Fair Bear’s Farmland this summer at The Erie County Fair. In keeping with the theme of celebrating our country’s 250th we are leaning towards patriotic. Any ideas?? 😉 🧨 🇺🇸 🎡

Excited to see our last Tachyon calf join the fold, the big man lives on through his progeny. We continue to miss “Mr T’s” steady presence and gentle nature but have high hopes with our new bull… he has big hooves to fill!

It was HOT so that means bath time! Phoenix loved every minute of it 😊
