Interesting, educational, sometimes funny as hell, heartwarming and at times sad. Welcome! If you follow along your heart will be tugged many different ways. My husband David has a lot of health issues including alzheimers and is in a wheelchair. I'm his sole caretaker along with caring for horses, donkeys, bulls, and dogs. RR is located outside Crawford CO which is a town of 300. Being in a very

rural area with few resources that cities have I am constantly having to "McIver" most everything to make it work. I welcome you with open arms.

I thought you would enjoy starting your day with some really awesome news! An update on Thor the Malamute, who had to be tearfully and sadly relinquished by his 91 year old owner, and now with his new mom and dad and female companion in Silverton. I could not be happier for him and his new family.

It's the situations that start with heartbreak and end with amazingly happy endings that keep me going and doing what I do.

This from his mom:

"Hi Debbie!

I thought I'd send a one month pup date on Thor to let your followers know how he's doing! He's such a character! We love him so much and we think he's pretty happy. He does get a bit wistful at bedtime some nights and I'm sure he's missing his previous life and his dad. He does stop and looks at every pickup truck he sees as well.

Dogs never forget. Mark gives his dad updates, and he called last night missing Thor so we sent some photos and will continue to do so. He's talking and howling more which cracks the entire neighborhood up. He's so loud and getting much sassier!

He had his first vet appointment 2 weeks ago. We had no idea what to expect. But our vet is fabulous and spent an entire hour with all of us. His teeth look great (phew) and he has some arthritis in his hips and shoulders and he's 30 pounds over weight! We had bloodwork done and it was all great! He is one healthy big boy! So we got him on some pain meds and a 1500 calorie a day diet. He's more eager now to get moving, loves to get out and we can barely keep up. We are doing 1 mile loops to the park 3x a day. He is so strong!

He loves food! I am having to figure out his diet because I cook for my dogs. I'm not used to calorie counting. I want to make sure he feels full while he's dieting.

He loves car rides. He also goes to work with Mark up at the mill and spends the day in the car with hatchback open. He definitely needs to be groomed! I can't find anyone to take him so I've been watching YouTube videos of how to approach this undertaking!! I have ordered all the things I need, but I think I need to set up a big tent to make this happen!! It will probably be a full day ordeal the first time. We brush him every day and he's been very patient.

I'm also looking for a giant orthopedic dog bed for him. I do have an instagram account where I post pictures of my dogs and nature so people can follow me if they like. i don't post a ton but I will try to do better.

I will attach some photos here. Enjoy!"

I want to share this last thing about the little Chihuahua. The woman that had him last was understandably upset about the comments being assumed about her. She said all she really wanted was for him to have a good loving and caring home and she felt like her's probably wasn't the right one for him.

That's when I told her about the Silver Whiskers Program. I explained it all to her and she began to cry. She said, "I so hope he can go into that program because it would be so perfect for him. Will you please let me know what happens?"

Let's all get back to being nice because I think all of us just want Chance to live his best life.

Things are getting a bit out of hand with the little chihuahua. Everyone has an opinion, but it doesn't have to be inflammatory.

Here are the facts about this dog as I know it from my experience since I got involved.

1. I received a text while in Nashville that he was seen at the Hotchkiss High School and several tried to catch him to no avail.

2. About a week and a half after that text I was notified that he was at the Crawford Airport.

3. About a week after that he was in the town of Crawford and multiple people were trying to catch him. He was at risk of being killed on the busy road that goes through town so I finally set a trap and caught him.

Some do not believe that he made it from Hotchkiss all the way to Crawford by himself because he was so little. Knowing how hard this little guy is to catch and how fast he is I do not believe he was picked up by several people along the way and taken from Hotchkiss high school area to the Crawford airport and then to the town. This guy is a survivor!

If you know me honesty, truthfulness and kindness are everything and my page and the followers need to abide by that same philosophy.

He's now here and safe and there is no possibility of him getting out and away. So for now, until we get this all resolved, he will remain in my care.

Keep you posted.

I just had a heart to heart talk with the woman that contacted me saying he was her dog. To say she's not happy with me posting everything here is an understatement.

I think I now understand why her story kept changing. It was because she thought she might be protecting him from going back to a possibly bad home.

Here's the story....

Her daughter was driving to work and saw him with a pack of other dogs. He was laying on the road, as if he had been hit by a car. as the rest of the pack ran away. She picked him up and took him a vet in Delta where he stayed for several days. They told her he probably would not be claimed so they took him home.

Not long after he got out and ran away. His journey from Hotchkiss to Crawford took several weeks until I was able to catch him.

But now someone else is saying he's actually their dog. Because he was out with a pack of dogs on a busy road and had been hit the daughter and her mom didn't want him returned to what they believed to be an irresponsible home. With that being said she understands that if his owner does provide proof of ownership he will go back home with them.

Talk about being in the middle! This where I presently am.....

I'm waiting for the person also claiming him to provide proof of ownership. If that does not happen the woman that last had him says she will pay for his neuter if she's allowed to have him.

And I just felt bad for the little fella that everyone had been texting me about so I got involved. In rescue you sometimes end up not being someone's favorite person but my skin has gotten pretty tough over the years lol. It's always the animals that I have a best interest in....not the people.

What a little dog to have such a big story!!

Ok....I'm now really in a quandary. The story keeps changing......

I told the owner I needed proof of ownership so I asked for a copy of the adoption agreement she got him from. She said she was at work and didn't know where it was but gave me the name of her vet.

She said she had taken him to a vet in Delta after he got out of the yard and clipped by a car. She previously told me she could not catch him when he got clipped by a car. So I called the vet who knows me well and they did have a record of that visit. They agreed that no shelter or rescue is going to adopt out an unneutered dog.

Because I am now unsure about any of this I told her I absolutely needed proof of the adoption from the shelter in Grand Junction. She couldn't remember the name of it and said it was at Petco. I assumed it was an adoption day that Petco offers rescues.

I told her it was law that any shelter or rescue could only adopt out spayed/neutered dogs cats. The only exception is if the animal is too young and then you have to put down a deposit you get back when it is altered.

I said surely you have the adoption paperwork. She hummed and hawed and then said her office in her home was demolished by a man under the influence who fell asleep and his truck went into her house and all her paperwork was destroyed.

Then another story unfolded. She said she actually bought him from a woman that was standing outside Petco and she paid a couple of hundred dollars for him thus the reason he wasn't neutered nor chipped.

I could tell she was getting frustrated with me and she said, "I spent over $500 on this dog already at the vet." I explained to her that in this crazy world there have been situations where people say they are the owners and they are not. I told her I had to have proof of ownership and I would get legal advice as to what to do here.

OMG what should we do folks??? Oh and she said he actually belongs to her 24 year old daughter that lives with her.

Wonders never cease at Rancho Ridiculouso.

The owner of the teacup chihuahua reached out to me after seeing my post on the Hotchkiss Message Board this morning. His name is Champ.

3 weeks ago he got out of their yard when kids came over for baseball practice and that scared him. They saw him get out, chased after him, and he got clipped by a car which is why his eye looks injured. They posted on the message boards and people were letting them know of sightings but he was never there when they looked.

They live outside Hotchkiss, and they adopted him from a shelter in Grand Junction at the first of this year. Shelters are not supposed to adopt out unneutered dogs. She said he has always been very timid and shy. She works and is coming for him when she gets off this afternoon.

I called all the vets in our area and Betty Houseweart said she had seen something about him missing a while back which obviously was the owner's post.

Awwww I'm not sure how I feel about this.........

I scanned the chihuahua and as expected.....no chip. He really needs to go to the vet because I'm concerned about his eye and he seems to have something going on in his hips. He has a weird gate, but we know he has traveled at least 11 miles so he might just be sore.

He's not decompressed yet so I will make a vet appointment for next week. He now has a vet appointment next Monday (a week from today).

Sorry for my stupid baby talk.

This boy has had some love in his life. I think he’s used to being held and cuddled so I can only imagine how stressful his journey has been. The first report I got about him was over Memorial Day weekend while I was in Nashville.

I’m going to scan him for a microchip but I don’t have high hopes.
