Interesting, educational, sometimes funny as hell, heartwarming and at times sad. Welcome! If you follow along your heart will be tugged many different ways. My husband David has a lot of health issues including alzheimers and is in a wheelchair. I'm his sole caretaker along with caring for horses, donkeys, bulls, and dogs. RR is located outside Crawford CO which is a town of 300. Being in a very rural area with few resources that cities have I am constantly having to "McIver" most everything to make it work. I welcome you with open arms.

It’s beautiful here in sunny California today. Warm but not hot which I hear is the complete opposite at home in Colorado. Cold and rainy with snow in the mountains.

It’s been wonderful being with my family but always good to get back home with the pack. I’ll be home tonight.

P.S Not off to good start. Plane from Burbank to Denver delayed 2 hrs! Gonna be a close connection on flight from Denver to Montrose.

I’ve been thinking about cutting my hair for a while. Nicole and I talked about it and she thinks she can do it for me.

She’s an artist and can make most anything
look amazing. She’s designed and made costumes that are intricate and is a party planner. She creates outdoor and indoor themed parties for clients. Some of the things she has created are spectacular but my hair? I’m a little nervous. She said we will talk about it over coffee this morning but I have a feeling it will be over lunch.

James got home late from filming the football game and the two of them are night owls so not sure when I’ll see them.

Before I left Colorado I got a call from a staff member of a non profit organization that helps seniors. Her client’s 15 year old dog was on the verge of passing. The dog is the woman’s emotional support dog and she’s panicking because she cannot be alone.

Little senior dogs are hard to find these days but I told the caller I would start searching. Today Nicole and I are going to the city shelter to see what they have in the way of little senior dogs. I ‘m kinda hoping I don’t see one because if I do then a whirlwind would begin. Getting a vet health certificate, a crate and a pet animal reservation on my plane back home.

While at the shelter I’m going to talk to them about the german shepherd pup that is always crated.

Tonight Nicole and I are meeting three of her girlfriends for dinner. Can you tell I’m the only one up so far? You may end up reading more of my novel long posts if this goes on lol.

P.S. Here’s one of the costumes she made for James in the past. Right now she’s creating an Edward Scissor Hands costume for some event.

We took James, who is a senior, to school this morning. When we came back home my night owl daughter just had to go back to bed for a little while. So I’m just hanging out here.

I ran across this magazine for the Art Director’s Guild which is what my son in law does. It gave me some insight into what he actually does.

He and Nicole are both artists but he went to college for architecture. He creates production design for movies, commercials and music videos. He creates set designs and has a crew that builds them and then he adds the artistic dimension with props.

When Nicole worked she too was in production design for movies and TV.

James is now following in his parents footsteps and he’s in broadcasting and filming classes at his high school. He’s in charge of the high school’s morning show. Right now he’s doing a short film and he has written it, is auditioning student actors and leading all the production.

Tonight he’s actually filming the football game for some project he’s working on so he will be home late because he wants to get editing out of the way. Talk about a show business family! A far cry from the life his “gram cracker” lives.

I arrived Burbank yesterday and is it ever hot! I’m loving being with my daughter Nicole and 17 year old grandson James. My son in law David has been working on a movie in Seattle for a month but he’s coming home right before I leave. He’s an Art Director.

Burbank and North Hollywood are next to each other.
When you live in such a remote area in the mountains of Colorado you forget how it really is in such a heavily populated area. You can never get away from people! But fun watching it all play out.

In Nicole’s neighborhood all those that have dogs of course know each other because they run into each other when walking their dogs through blocks and blocks of houses.

Right now they are all up in arms over a family blocks away that got a german shepherd puppy and keep it in a crate in their front yard 24/7! It cries all the time and no one has seen them walk it.

So around 9:30 last night we walked my 13 year old grandpup Charlie over there. There’s a tall stucco wall surrounding their front yard so why they crate it is a mystery.

One person talked to them about it and the owner went ballistic at them. Of course I’m like, “Let’s steal it! I can crawl over that wall if you have a small ladder!”

Nicole told the closest neighbor to call the cops and complain about it crying and barking and maybe they will do something. I’m feeling so bad for that puppy. Thank goodness I don’t live here because I would probably end up in the Burbank jail lol!

I can't even remember the last time I visited my daughter Nicole in Burbank CA. When my grandson James was born I was there once a month during his first year of life. Since then It's always been easier for them to come see me because of all the animals here at the sanctuary.

James, who began calling me Gram Cracker since he was a toddler, is already 17 years old and a senior in high school. He has some things planned for me during my visit. Like going to a Los Angeles movie theater with recliner like seats, amazing sound and movie screen. I haven't been to a modern movie theater in at least 15 years and at that time it was nothing like it is today. And Nicole, who is a major thrift store groupie, told me to bring my suitcase empty so we can go thrifting for what I'll be wearing there.

I'm sure we'll be taking Charlie my senior grandpup to various dog parks which is quite an event in Los Angeles. Dog owners that tend to go to the same park become friends and their dogs even have their own social groups. It's fun to watch that kind of socializing going on.

I leave early Thursday morning and am so excited!!

I got a call this morning from an older man that found a kitten injured on the side of the road. That was Saturday night. He picked it up and took it home with him. The kitten looks to be around 10 weeks old and cannot use it's leg at all.

He called a vet clinic near him this morning hoping to get an appointment. He was told it would be considered an emergency and it cost him $440 just to get it in. He told me there was no way he could afford that so he called a few other vets that were fully booked and couldn't see the kitten.

He lives in an area I'm very familar with and it's a ranching community where there are so many feral cats. I suspect this is a kitten of one of those but because it's injured he was able to handle it. It's eating and drinking but dragging it's leg.

I wasn't sure what he actually wanted of me so I asked if he wanted someone to take the kitten and get it to the vet. He said, "No. I will keep it but I need help with the vet bill because I cannot pay that emergency charge.

I told him I couldn't pay that much just to get him in the door and it might require surgery as well. I gave him the name of a semi-retired vet (who's probably going to kill me lol) that is open 1/2 days on Monday. I told him I would happily pay that bill if he can get it in.

He was very grateful for my help and said he would let me know what happens.

In my experience.....in our area it is very difficult to even get a vet appointment before two weeks and I have noticed that some are charging an emergency charge if they can work you in. I get it but $440 is pretty ridiculous.

UPDATE ON KITTEN: I just got a call from the vet's wife that saw the kitten. It was a very sick kitten with upper respiratory issues and a severely broken leg. They didn't even think it could survive being put under to do surgery so the decision was made to put it to sleep. A very sad situation for the sick and injured kitten, but what happened next was amazing. Right before the man took the kitten to this vet the clinic got a call from a woman that found a kitten that had been dumped on her property. She was asking the clinic to help find it a home because she already had too many cats. Bottomline....the man that saved the kitten that was euthanized said he would take it and the woman was on her way with the dumped kitten to give it to the man. A very sad story but an amazing ending for another kitten. I apologized to the vet's wife for giving out their number but as she said, "This was meant to be. This man ended up saving a kitten even though it wasn't the one he thought it would be. And we are not going to charge you for the euthanasia." A sad tale with a happy ending. Taco Bell Angel is amazing!
