Mindie started limping last week, and I panicked like a first-time mom! 😂🙋🏼♀️ I immediately called the vet and found one who could check her leg AND trim all three cows’ hooves.
To trim a cow’s hooves, they use a tilt table. The cow walks in, the whole structure is secured around their body, and then it lifts and tilts them onto their side. Once the cow is settled, the floor drops away so the vet can safely access their hooves.
Sandie may be small, but she is MIGHTY. 🤣 She put up the biggest fight of all and had both vets saying some colorful words while they tried to get her feet still! 😂😂
Mindie was last, so they checked her leg and hooves. Her hoof was tender on the side she’d been limping on, and the vet carefully examined it until he found a spot where she’d stepped on something. Thankfully, because I brought her in so quickly, it hadn’t gotten infected or turned into a bigger hoof problem!
He asked how long she’d been limping, and I told him less than a week. I called as soon as I noticed it. He got a good laugh out of that because apparently, most farmers wouldn’t call the vet over a little limp. 😂🤷🏼♀️
Turns out, I’m just as much of a helicopter mom to my livestock as I am to my kids. 🤣❤
All three big cows got their pedicures, Mindie got her leg checked, and everyone was happy to head home! 🐮💕
