The Robins made a nest in a bin in our hoophouse.
🐣πŸ₯🐣
The chicks emerged the day after Mother's Day. We have been entertained the last two weeks by the mom & pop and the chicks which were just a few feet away from where we set up a bumping up station.
🐣πŸ₯🐣
Yesterday the last fledgling left the nest!
They will spend the next 10 to 15 days learning to fly and develop their flight muscles. They will mostly be on the ground. A very dangerous time indeed.

What fun, they had the gardens all to themselves! Exploring and having a great time. Tom gave a talk about DA and then introduced an adorable baby possum he is caring for until it becomes big enough to release into a wild setting.
πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ
Tom's raised many possums and shared his knowledge. Possums can get a bad rap. He shared that unlike raccoons, dogs and cats, possums are unlilkely to spread diseases that can affect us. They are also the only native marsulpial (pouched mammal).
If you are interested in raising this little guy, let us know!

We're adding a new plant to our Native Plant store! Astrantia major, Masterwort
This plant is part of our cut-flower gardens and is not a native.
We get many questions every year regarding this long blooming beauty.
πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
It loves partial shade and a woodland type setting. It is extremely well behaved and forms clumps that expand slowly. It is a long lasting bloom in the vase and also in the garden. It blooms in June and provides us fresh cuts for the vase for a few weeks. For the rest of the summer the flowers stay looking nice in the garden.

Any orders that are now placed in our Native Plant Store can schedule a pickup date when the order is placed!

The following plants that we propagate or are sourced from other growers will not be ready for pickup until June 1st. All of these plants are grown naturally in Michigan weather. Northern Blazing Star, Joe Pye W**d, Blue Lobelia, Common Milkweed, Wild Senna, Wild Petunia, Vernonia Prairie Princess, Showy Goldenrod
πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š
It has been a slow roll towards warm weather this spring, which looks like it is about to change this weekend and plants that emerge in late spring should really start to grow.
Any orders placed starting today, can schedule their pickup when they order!
πŸ’šπŸ’œπŸ’š
We are extremely happy with the number of new and returning customers that want to support wildlife - birds, bees and other critters that have always made their home here!

People have been placing preorders since February! We are encouraged by the interest and the number of new and returning customers.
πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š
If you placed a preorder, look for the pickup email early, May 15th. Please read carefully as a few plants will not be available on May 18th, due to the long cold spring.
If you do not see the email in your inbox, check your spam folder.
πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š
As always, if you have issues or concerns email at [email protected]

We made our annual trip this week to Wilczewski's Greenhouse, a family owned business, located in the Howell countryside.

We buy many plants there for our pavilion window boxes, but also hard to find hummingbird plants. In particular Black & Blue Slavia and Mexican Petunia that we plant in containers outside our pavilion. They are just an hour away and a good way to support a hard working famly business.

We need teachers for our Food is Medicine, Summer Dinner Series
πŸ§‘β€πŸ³πŸ§‘β€πŸ³πŸ§‘β€πŸ³
We are looking to fill our summer schedule with food-passionate volunteer teachers. We absolutely love bringing new vegetarian ideas to our students any way we can. Our past teachers include nutritionists, professional chefs, medical doctors, food-influencers and, yes, home cooks. Classes are Thursday evenings and include a $150 stipend to cover food costs. Contact our Food is Medicine program director, Justine to get involved or learn more. 607.857.6050
