Finally got a break from the rain last week, so we took advantage of it and checked cows along with the fence and flood gates.

A little corn treat makes getting everyone to come closer a whole lot easier! It gives us a chance to make sure we’ve got everybody accounted for and that everyone is looking healthy and doing well.

Nothing fancy—just another day of keeping an eye on the herd before we dive into harvest.

Thinking about ordering beef or pork from us? Here’s how the process works from start to finish 👇

🐄 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟏: 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐎𝐮𝐭
Send us a message to place your order, and we’ll get you added to our list. We schedule specific locker dates based on a set number of animals.

📅 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟐: 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐩-𝐎𝐟𝐟 𝐃𝐚𝐲
The day your calf or pig goes in, we’ll text you so you know it’s officially headed to the locker.

🥩 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟑: 𝐂𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
Where your animal is processed will determine how you submit your cut instructions:

- 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫: They’ll text you a link to complete your cut sheet online. You can also call them if you’d rather talk through your options. I highly suggest looking at their website to see your cut options.

- 𝐆𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫: You’ll need to call them directly with your cut instructions—they will not reach out to you.

⏱ 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟒: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞
Processing typically takes a little over a week. The locker will contact you when your meat is ready for pickup.

- Guthrie County Locker also offers delivery if you’re within their delivery area.

💰 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟓: 𝐏𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

- We’ll send you an invoice for our portion (mail or email—your preference).
- We accept cash, check, or Venmo.
- You’ll pay the locker separately when you pick up your meat.

Our new, young bull, David—named by Jensen—isn’t such a little guy anymore… looks like he’s ready to step into his role and enjoy the job 😅

There’s something pretty special about feeding our calves and pigs with something that came straight from our own fields 🌽🐄🐖

Grinding up the corn we grew to make feed for this group reminds us why we do what we do. From planting to harvest to feeding—it all comes full circle right here on the farm.

Even more meaningful is passing this down to the next generation—teaching them the value of hard work, where their food comes from, and the pride in raising it yourself. 💛

It takes time, patience, and a whole lot of effort, but watching these calves and pigs grow on feed we raised ourselves (and sharing that experience with our kids) makes it all worth it.

Thinking about buying a 1/2 hog but not sure how to have it processed? Here’s what worked for our family of 5 (with two growing boys 🐖🍽️) and what we ended up with!

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
• Packaged for 2 people
• Shoulder: Roasts
• Hocks: Ground
• Hams: Cured (smoked) & sandwich sliced
• Loins: Boneless chops
• Ribs: Ground
• Sides: Regular bacon 🥓
• Trim: Plain ground pork

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞:
• 7 shoulder roasts
• 1 tenderloin
• 9 boneless pork chops
• 9 lbs. sliced ham (sandwich style)
• 11 lbs. bacon
• 23 (1 lb) packages of ground pork

This mix has been great for everything from quick breakfasts to easy dinners and sandwiches. It’s a nice balance of ready-to-use items and freezer staples!
