There’s something pretty special about feeding our calves and pigs with something that came straight from our own fields 🌽🐄🐖

Grinding up the corn we grew to make feed for this group reminds us why we do what we do. From planting to harvest to feeding—it all comes full circle right here on the farm.

Even more meaningful is passing this down to the next generation—teaching them the value of hard work, where their food comes from, and the pride in raising it yourself. 💛

It takes time, patience, and a whole lot of effort, but watching these calves and pigs grow on feed we raised ourselves (and sharing that experience with our kids) makes it all worth it.

Thinking about buying a 1/2 hog but not sure how to have it processed? Here’s what worked for our family of 5 (with two growing boys 🐖🍽️) and what we ended up with!

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
• Packaged for 2 people
• Shoulder: Roasts
• Hocks: Ground
• Hams: Cured (smoked) & sandwich sliced
• Loins: Boneless chops
• Ribs: Ground
• Sides: Regular bacon 🥓
• Trim: Plain ground pork

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞:
• 7 shoulder roasts
• 1 tenderloin
• 9 boneless pork chops
• 9 lbs. sliced ham (sandwich style)
• 11 lbs. bacon
• 23 (1 lb) packages of ground pork

This mix has been great for everything from quick breakfasts to easy dinners and sandwiches. It’s a nice balance of ready-to-use items and freezer staples!

Today we celebrate the moms who do it all — early mornings, late nights, and everything in between. From feeding calves and pigs to feeding families, your love, strength, and dedication never go unnoticed.

Thank you for being the heart of the farm and the glue that holds it all together. We are so grateful for everything you do, today and every day.

This past weekend wasn’t all sunshine and pretty views—just some of the less glamorous parts of farm life. With the warmer weather and dry fields, we took the opportunity to clean out the calving barn and apply it to our fields before planting to help provide valuable nutrients for the upcoming crop. Not always the fun jobs, but definitely important ones! 🌱🚜

There’s just something about a cold, rainy day that calls for a warm, cozy meal straight from the oven 🌧️🍽️

Feeling especially grateful today to have our freezer stocked with ground beef—nothing fancy, just simple ingredients coming together to make a hearty pot pie for the family. Meals like this remind us how much of a blessing it is to raise our own food and gather around the table together.

Comfort food, full hearts, and a house that smells amazing—doesn’t get much better than that ❤️

The cows are relaxing in the calving barn out of the wind, while the calves we are feeding to go to the locker are staying warmer in the hoop building. Cattle can survive outside if they have a windbreak to get out of the wind and bedding to lay on. This is going to be a long 3 days of bitterly cold weather. We put out enough hay for them so we don't need to run the tractors until it warms up next week. Stay safe everyone.
